NOT Simon Blouin
Hey guys, Just got my first arm, an Artemis ACT1. And after playing and flying with it, I realized there's probably something wrong. It looks like the junction between the arm post and the gimbal is really stiff. (The Gimbal is a brand new Pro) For example, when I'm going through doorways, I want to squeeze the arm towards me to make the rig smaller and it's pretty difficult at the moment, I feel like there is a lot of friction going on. Is it a question of lubrification..? Do you normally put some kind of oil to make it smoother..? Thank you, Simon
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted July 12, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 12, 2013 I am not familiar with that arm (I imagine it's similar to a 3a?) but pro sells arm post clamps and little delrin spacers so the lock down on the arm can be kept loose (if safe). I have also seen some guys put bearings there.
NOT Simon Blouin
Hi Ron, Thank you for the response. But I can't see how it would help, because when I'm putting the sled on my arm, the gimbal doesn't go through all of the arm post. So I guess it's not the friction between the exterior gimbal end, but the end of the gimbal hole against the arm post..?
Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted July 12, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 12, 2013 Not sure what you are describing, but the Pro ARM has a bearing that let's the ARM post rotate, my old master ARM didn't have that and I don't think the Sachtler has that either. The ARM post is not supposed to rotate inside of the Gimbal handle. Contact Curt @ Artemis, he will help you for sure.
NOT Simon Blouin
Got it, When I did put the arm post into the arm, there was a screw on the second post support, and I screwed it, but it doesn't had to be. So it's the arm post itself that has to rotate, and I didn't know. Thank you guys!
Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted July 12, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 12, 2013 http://shop.artemis-hd.com/out/pictures/5/aal-d3_p5.jpg yes, the arm post itself rotates or not depending on the arm design one more word of wisdom: WORKSHOP
NOT Simon Blouin
Thank you Jens! That's the point, I never tried this arm before receiving it today... Don't worry I took a workshop recently. It's just a detail I probably forgot or simply missed. Have a good one!
