Steadicam Flyer... where?

Ok, so it seems that the Steadicam site is pretty darn poor as far as actual information goes. I am trying to locate a decent deal on the Steadicam Flyer, and am having trouble finding dealers tha carry it. The only one I see is B&H, but I have nobody else to compare their prices to. Anyone know where the best deal is???

Thanks!

Hi Mr Goonie,

Welcome to the forums.

I would say the best place to get a deal on the flyer would be through tiffen. The prices are already pretty good for what you get.

I'm not sure what support you would have through B&H, but i know that tiffen would take care of you pretty well.

You could try looking for a used one if it was still to much.

Hope that helps.

Bryan

Goonie,

We try to use our real names here on this forum. Anyway contact Frank Rush at Tiffen. frush@tiffen.com he is the sales manager for Steadicam. I am not sure there will be much price comparison, directly from Tiffen I would assume will give you the best price. Places like B&H and Optex would have to mark up the price to make money off the sale, I would think...I have no idea though??? What kind of information do you want to know about the Flyer? Maybe I can help, I just got dome working the Tiffen booth at CineGear I am really up on all my facts right now. LOL. By the way tell Frank I gave you his name, he won't give you any deal, I just want the credit, LOL. :P

Good luck,

Hi guys,

I bought my Flyer through a Belgian Steadicam dealer (around 8.000 USD). I gather they made some profit off the sale ;) . Hope this helps.

The Flyer is well worth its money I think, when working with smaller cameras.

Brian: loved your photos of the workshop, I'm looking forward to taking one myself even more now!

Greetings,

Sven

What I was told to tell people at the CineGear booth was the 12V Flyer system was around $6,900.00 and the F24, which is the 24V Flyer, was around $12,900.00. This of course was US dollars. So there is a starting price point as far as Frank goes.

I purchased a Steadicam Flyer from Adorama for $6300.00, although I am still yet to receive it.

I had to wait over 2 months for my Flyer to arrive. According to the supplier this was due to the fact that the Flyer is a victim of its own popularity. Supply can't follow demand.

Now that I have mine, I can tell why it's so popular: great performance at a reasonable price.

Hi Chris,

Since I plan to purchase a flyer in the next couple of weeks, I am quite interested to see how your experience goes with Adorama, as that is a great price. I have heard that their service lately has not been up to their previously fine standards, and that they have been putting the "hard sell" on their customers.

I've been a Steadicam Operator for 18 years, an Instructor for 14....and a Steadicam Flyer dealer for about 4 weeks. I've already sold one. ( close to taking delivery ). I'm still a working Operator; I was up at 5:00 am today for a 7:00 am call with my rig in hand. Aside from a busted HMI ballast that the supplier dropped and broke, it was a delightful day's work.

I do not want to get into a range war with other dealers, nor am I interested in playing a numbers game on the Internet. So, no prices are advertised.

Anyone who is serious about purchasing a Steadicam Flyer and a series of Flyer accessories is welcome to email me and we can discuss the business off-board.

About 10 days ago I stood in the Tiffen Steadicam facility in Los Angeles, being given the tour by Frank Rush. They are making Flyers to beat the band. Like any product that takes off in a huge way, there's a production line curve. I can tell you they're making more than they have been, and will continue to up the output on a monthly basis.

Best to all,

Peter Abraham

Glad to have been of service, Chris. I've got a rig going out tomorrow, and two more interested parties both in the USA and overseas. Quick turn-around these days, too ! The last Flyer I sold was paid for two days ago and ships out to me in about 2 hours .

It's a lot of fun to get new ops into their first rigs. :)

Best to all,

Peter Abraham,

New York
