David James
quick question. I've got a pilot on the way to get going but I'm wondering how you upgrade. Can you do it a piece at a time? i.e. find a better vest, then a better arm, then sled or is it best to change everything at once if you've saved enough? I like to own my gear and I've got almost everything but a pro steadicam costs a lot. Cheers, David
Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted August 28, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 28, 2013 Hi and welcome to the world of Steadicam! The Pilot is a great system but it is not upgradable. The reason is that the parts are smaller than the standard of the big rig. You could upgrade the vest to a Zephyr vest which is more comfortable and change your monitor, but the sled itself is a single block. May I recommend you to look into attending to a workshop (Tiffen, SOA or any on the right side if the forum) it will allow you to avoid starting with a bad posture and injure your back as well as meeting other operators. The pilot is a great choice for a first rig and when the time comes, you'll be know what you are looking for in a rig and will be able to make the right session. In the mean time, fly safe and enjoy.
