Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted September 22, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 22, 2013 I have a project coming up with the Leica Primes. Is there anything to look out for? Thanks
Premium Members Aaron Medick SOC Posted September 22, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 22, 2013 Nope. They are great. All the same size and weigh. If I remember correctly. Very sharp.
Premium Members Fabrizio Sciarra SOC ACO Posted September 22, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 22, 2013 What Aaron said. Very sharp lenses, very fast, and very light as well.
Premium Members Lawrence Karman Posted September 22, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 22, 2013 Flares. I had big problems in combination with Red Epic camera. Bright backgrounds show up on dark colored objects as a reflection (bouncing off the sensor or lens elements? We never could figure that out). Also had flare or reflection issues with fluorescent lights just above the frame. I love the weight and size of these lenses, but I would not choose to use them again if it were up to me. Also the engravings on the dumb side did not match the markings on the other side of some lenses. Astounding considering what they cost. Premium Members Chris Flurry Posted September 22, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 22, 2013 Hey Jens, Just finished a pilot with them last week working as the steadicam assistant, beautiful lenses, very steadicam friendly all similar sizes and weights. My only note, If you are using the Hand Unit-3 make sure you have then newer version 2.1 software it is optimized for the Leicas. Also they claim that they have identical focus throws and if you calibrate, one lens it is good for all of them. While the focus throw is very similar, I didn't find it to be identical. I had to calibrate each lens individually as you would with any other set of primes.
Premium Members chris fawcett Posted September 24, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 24, 2013 VERY sharp, with occasionally ugly bokeh. I don't much like them, and I'm a Leica nut. But I never had a problem with them. It's an aesthetic dislike. Chris
