Forget the Nits, Be A Great Op

Dave, just re-read your post and this thread and realized I only dropped a snarky response (as usual) and didn't say what a plessure it was to have you join us on our crazy show. Nice to see Aiken as well.

Dave and I spent most of the time snarking the goings on (like Waldorf and Statler on the muppet show) and then geeked out discussing different sleds/monitors since he is thinking of upgrading. Seems much of the time was spent talking about how much we both missed the Pro1. What a perfect little sled. As far as monitors, we were looking at my Nebtek outside in the sinlight then under a silk. It did a little better than I thought it would (I usually just put the tb6 on when we are outside). Though I still prefer the greenscreen when in bright sun (duh).

As far as this forum descending into lunacy, I can't help but share a bit of the blame as most of my posts are smart-ass responses or referring to strippers and/or alcohol (they do go hand in hand eh?).

Thanks Dave -- as usual a very well written and thought out post from a great op. I remember the old AOL forum and the discussions on it. I had most of it printed out at one point...lots of really good stuff from ops who no longer hang out here.

Pleasure was all mine. Maybe if you spent a bit more time saving for a better monitor and not hanging with the strippers....,

Actually one of the things I loved to see is that Ron uses his monitor as an sd monitor so he can use his XCS level and shrinks the size as he, like I, feel that bigger images aren't necessarily better. Love that you have an HD monitor and don't even look at the HD!!

Onwards to the downward spiral.

Damn it! I'm a week away from a new rig, only to find out I'll still be a terrible person.

btw, which way off the porch go the kids? In or out?

Lucky to know you,

Gerard

Kids are headed out off the porch Gerard. And sadly, with gear being this good, I don't think it's going to save any of us. But enough about that, back to watching shots I did 15 years back and convincing myself I could still pull them off. Ha.

Just because Dave was nice to me in another thread (and we are old friends and I lived in his basement when I first moved to LA etc etc), if anyone is not familiar with his work, go to Steadishots right now and watch and learn. That lanky bastard pulled off AMAZING stuff all day every day like it was nothing. Complete and utter control of the rig, able to remember dozens and dozens of cues and offered a ton of great ideas (he was the youngest director of "ER" in an era where operators were not given the opportunity to direct network shows).

Dave: I accept Paypal.

xoxo
