greg(ory) Vanhove Posted June 27, 2005 Report Share Posted June 27, 2005 Hi guy's, I have a problem with my horizon level. I'm shooting a belgian cop-show in HD on an Ultra sled. My setup was compleet, the balance was perfect, the level was checked everything was OK. I walked to the set, docked the sled, talked to the director and when I mounted the sled, my horizon wasn't working annymore. (!?!) The level showed it was compleet off, It was so offlevel it didn't move at all. I didn't know what was happening and on the 1 day of the new series with a new director that was waiting for me on the set! Damn why now! I asked 2 minute's to solve the problem. Even with the level pot compleet to the right I couldn't get a zero level. So I turned the level indicator off and did my shots without it. the day after when I checked the sled, everything was fine again!?! Last friday one month later, same show, HD, different camera, ready to go. Damn! Offlevel again. Luckely we were shooting action shots in a forrest that day so it wasn't that critical. Buy a 2 cheap line levels from the hardware store and remove the levels from their mounts. Permanently glue one level under the dovetail mount on your rig (out of site). Attach a narrow strip of Velcro to the monitor and the opposite Velcro to the other level. This way in an emergency, you can quickly attach the monitor level, calibrate it to the level under the donkey box and your back up without anybody knowing you had a problem. Sorry I can?t help with the actual problem. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sounds like a loose wire, which is probably one 3 pin multiconnector not fully inserted, either on the sensor end or on the electronics board end. I would call/email Tiffen for advice. If you want, remove the covers (a bit tricky) and try pushing the connectors a little harder onto the boards... all is available on the left/port side of the electronics.
