We have some close ups on faces and hands that I think would work real well with the light. Anyone know where I can rent one, and possibly the price? We'd need it for 2 weeks. If you're in the UK try Cirro Lite 3 Barretts Green Rd, London, NW10 7AE T: +44 (0) 20 8955 6700 F: +44 (0) 20 8961 9343 E: info@cirrolite.com I know they do the Kinoflo Kamio kit there for around £75 per day... almost worth buying one for that price. I owned one for a year- really nice little light but I rarely used it. I found it had quite a few bugs (blown tubes and the fixture appearing in the frame on anything near the wide end of the lens for examples). I'd suggest that if you are hiring- try and get the version without the filter trays. If you can live without using filters you'll find that the design on the filter-less version means that you can use much wider lens' than the version with filter trays! Good luck! Ben Spence <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks Ben, yeah...we are in the states. we were looking at the Kinoflo, and a friend was suggesting that he buy it because it was so cheap. (low cost) but I'm a little worried about the light output of it. It's supposed to be able to be powered by the camera? I can't remember the name of it right now, but someone here is bound to know. It had dimmable LED's and was very bright at full power. Hopefully someone will chime in with the name and where you can rent one. I'm sure Kyle Young will know, so you could just give Tiffen a call to find out for sure. Yeah the Kamio doesn't put out much light- you need a very low light level for it to do much good. It's great for pieces to camera etc. indoors.; but anything near outside or a high ambient light level and it just can't cope. Yes, the Kamio can be powered from any 12-15v source such as the power tap on sony cameras (Digi or HD) or your sled! This is it's best feature; no nasty power cables hanging off your rig. Just to let you know... if you're shooting 16x9 then I think around 8mm (in terms on Broadcast TV camera lens') is the widest point you can shoot with using the Kamio (which means you might as well not bother with a wide lens) or if you're shooting 4x3 then I think around 6mm is the widest point before you start getting the fixture in shot- this is from memory so don't take it as 100% accurate! oh, and if you're using the Kamio watch out for dimming it too much; the colour balance goes a bit nuts... I ve been using it regularly on promos since it came out about a year ago. Love it. It canes my sleds batteries but hey thats what they are for. The LED s when without any diffusion have loads of throw. it has 2 filter trays you can turn off any section of the ring if you want it a little less flat for somethings. He s building a remote control for it to drop the output from a distance. This has been a problem a few times on the kisslight, In constant pressure music vids sometimes you have to wing it, if you get too close they can get very hot. (too bright not temp.) Rents out for about 75 ukp/day in the UK, available from Hardpencil and AFM Its something I really want to own for my promo kit, however with the slump in promo s Im having difficulties buying more kit. It retails for between 2700 ukp to 5400 ukp depending on how many extras you want/need. I tried to put together a costing to make my own similar light for my own work, but it came in pretty expensive, only around 2/3 rd s of the basic package. When u consider the low resell afterwards and the bits braking off your own badly designed one, I will be getting this. Runs on any input voltage from 12 - 30v. Dimmable with no colour shift. Works with filter trays clamped to the lens or on the bars or on the bars with or without the filter tray housing. I searched and found this old thread on ring lights, does anyone have anything new? Is Lightpanels ring light the way to go? If so which one is better for Steadicam?
