Battery case, best options?

Hi, I am looking for a solution to carry at least 4 Anton Bauer HC and my dual-2722 charger in one easy case.

If anyone has a good solution or a case for sale let me know.

I use the Pelican 1510 which is spacious yet compact. I don't know how big your 2722 charger is compared to my Titan2 but mine fits great with room for 6-8 Dionics depending on how you arrange it. The charger has to lay flat tho, can't go vertical because its too deep for the case. And it's carry-on size with wheels (Li-ion can't easily be checked these days). The lid organizer is 1519 and works great for power cables and 4-pin XLRs.

Have you had any trouble carrying on your batteries? The rules seem to dictate that you really can't carry as many as we would generally need.

The problematic restrictions are on checked bags really. You can only check a minimal number, must be under 100wH, and it must be attached to a device. Carry on is the only way to travel with Li-Ion now. There is no quantity limit for Dionic 90 & HC.

 

I always carry my Dionic 90's on board with no fuss. Haven't had an argument with TSA yet..

I have seen some folks say that when they travel they carry on their vest with them. Do you? or do you have a case for it?

 

I am just starting to travel for work and am still working out the kinks. I have a soft bag (essentially the one from Modular 51), but I certainly don't want to check that.

I am reviving this post if you don't mind. Do you know of anyone who would make a good foam cutout for this? Does anyone has photos of how you guys are storing them? I'm tired of throwing my charger and batteries in my big AKS case.

I know a friend of mine (who is also on this forum, Chris Campbell) had a couple of battery cases made by South-Pak (http://www.south-pak.com/).

They turned out really nice and were quite reasonable. He had nothing but good things to say about them.

Storing the batts should be on the Charger, all the time, 24/7 until you need to take them off the charger. I've verified this with Anton bauer many many times, I've even asked the same person a few years later since I asked him and it's always the same. Every AB charger made, the 2700 series, the TWQ ( Discontinued) and the newer style Simultaneous fast TM4 as well as the small 2 position chargers are set up to have the batteries on them indefinitely, only trickle charging when the batteries need it.

 

As for shipping them. I travel with 2- Hytron 100, and 6 Anton Bauer HC batts. At home I keep the Quad 2704 and I travel with the TM4. I've never needed more batteries than what the TM4 can charge in the time I use them up.

As for where to pack them. Mike and I use the same. The pelican 1510 would fit a 2 position charger and 6+ HC's no problem.. I take the TM4, so that goes in my clothing suitcase and the batteries in the 1510.

I use the padded dividers. one slot for each battery. I don't think there were enough of the small dividers in the kit, but a visit to a rental house yielded dozens of unused small dividers they were willing to donate to a frequent renter.

 

As for the humming sounds, or Fans that go on every once in a while in the Quad style chargers, i keep the chargers in a cabinet with several 2" holes in the back for ventilation and i never hear them.

 

 

I have yet to be asked by TSA anything about the Dionics

Some productions post Lithium Labels on any case that has even one small L type Sony battery in it, and some productions will pack 12 HC's in each case and just "Go" with it. I make sure I never Check those production cases under my name...I don't want to rot in some fed pen cause the prod cord wanted to wrap quick.

Thanks Osvaldo. Do you have a foam cutout? So I need bro buy as many chargers as batteries? The chargers have a humming sound when plugged that drives me nuts.

I edited my comment above with some answers to your post Victor.

I was able to get a used 2700 series quad charger with the discharger installed for like $700 many many years ago, then ordered the new ver.#5.4 chip for it from AB for like 50$, then got the AB "Lambo" charger ( TM4) new. I have 4 batts on the 2700 series and 4 on the TM4.

 

If I end up getting more stuff that runs on AB bricks, I'll pick up another Quad 2700 series model for a few hundred bucks, have it serviced and upgraded to the latest software and just throw it on the shelf next to the other ones.

PS, Check out some other chargers just like yours at a rental house or someone else who has them. They should not Humm. Mine only have the fan turn on every once in a while on the TM4 and very rarely on the Quad.2700 series.

I'll look into that. as of now I only have 3 batteries, and I'm planning on getting a couple more soon. So then I'll get an extra charger to go with it.

The humming I mentioned is the fan yes. Plus the alternative sound when the trickle charge is happening. A shelf is a good thing yes. As of now it is living in the basement.
