Premium Members Bud Kremp S.O.C. Posted November 17, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 17, 2013 Hi Brothers and Sisters, On another website, I've been reading a topic regarding Steadicam Operators accepting scale on a Tyler Perry show based on what the producers SAY they have. It got me thinking. Over the years, UPMs, Producers have told me the money the DONT have, and what the cable and broadcast companies WONT pay for because of low budgets. Then, as the show goes on you find out that they were wrong or flat out lied to you. Or, they proceed to throw bags of money out the window due to poor planning. We are all told different lies, sob stories and fairy tales about the budgets, and policies of shows and companies (FULL VALUE replacement insurance cert.!!?) So I thought let's create a topic where we all could see and share all in one place, the budgets and policies of the networks and cable companies! We can't change or fight for something if we don't have as much info as possible! My hope is that this begins a helpful conversation for the well deserved enrichment of us all!! Cheers! Premium Members Bud Kremp S.O.C. Posted November 17, 2013 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted November 17, 2013 I'll Go first! Myth - "HBO doesn't pay portal to portal" Just worked on the 2nd season of an HBO show. I was told by my UPM "HBO doesn't pay portal to portal per the contract". Most of our locations were an hour each way from our base. Took the contract into 600 for interpretation. Not true! HBO gets 1 hour free for travel, THEN they have to pay portal to portal! So if your location is 40 mins from your base, then that's 20 mins of portal to portal you should be paid!

Premium Members Eric Fletcher S.O.C. Posted November 17, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 17, 2013 Bud if you have a housing deal then you are on portal to portal. If you are working local then what I say is correct

Premium Members Bud Kremp S.O.C. Posted January 8, 2014 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted January 8, 2014 Hi guys, I have just attempted to re-negotiate with the TNT show "The Last Ship" for the ACam/Steadi position. They wanted to day play Steadicam, at $1,000 a day with a $3,000 a week cap. I declined the offer. I countered the usual - you can carry the rig at $1,000 a day for a 3 day week and use it whenever you want or day play the rig at $1,000 as used. They declined. They have decided that they are going to become a handheld show and not use Steadicam. I can only hope that "cap" on DAY PLAY equipment is not going to become a option for production. It's not right & I hope we can avoid heading down this road. Cheers.
Premium Members Osvaldo Silvera SOC Posted August 16, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 16, 2014 Looks like the folks at Tyler Perry studios are looking for another 4 Steadicam ops in ATL, offering 60/ hour to operate and 2150/week for gear. Please tell me No experienced IA600 operator will accept $60/hour to operate steadicam. Regular Operating that's fine, but no Bump for Steadi work? Didn't they hire 4 ops for their production last year... Where are those operators?, Why aren't they back?

I received a note from the UPM that they were crewed up after I offered to reconsider for a better rate. And here's the kicker, "must include a Preston" Edited August 17, 2014 by Mike Germond

Premium Members Twojay Dhillon Posted August 26, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 26, 2014 I got the call from Toilet Paper Studios. Also demanded that I come with a Preston and that the preferred Operator that "Mr. Perry" was looking for was an ex-Marine. DECLINED, despite needing hours.
