Matty_G
Hi All, Greetings from Australia! I'm currently working in a video production company as a cameraman. However, my true passion lies in the field of steadicam operation. I'm currently looking at investing in a rig. As I'm still a student and work isn't exactly regular, my budget isn't as flexible as I would have liked. I only have about $5000-$5500 U.S to spend. I was wondering if there was someone who would be able to point me in some direction of particular makes and models, which I should be going for. I have come across one particular rig, which I have really come to like. It's produced by a relatively small comapny, known as "Basson" and is located in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The particular model is known as the "Silver Arrow 925". Images and details of this product can be seen at: www.bassonsteady.com.ar If you could supply me with any advice, regarding this rig or any others that I should take a look at, it would be very much appreciated. Kind Regards Matthew
Premium Members Mikko Wilson Posted July 12, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 12, 2005 with Steadicam, as anything else, you get what you pay for. Tred carefully with the cheaper copycat rigs.. A big deciding factor on what rig you get, is the weight of the camera. After that you (and we) can figure out what rigs are available to you. - Mikko
Premium Members jay kilroy Posted July 12, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 12, 2005 Matthew, Mikko is right, "You get what you pay for". With that said STAY AWAY FROM BASSON!!. If I were you I would try to find an op in Oz and see if they will let you try thier rig out. More importantly I suggest a workshop. The SOA has info on an Austrailian workshop here is the link workshop down under. I think it is really important for you to take the workshop before you make an investment like a rig. Good luck. jay kilroy VP, SOA
Premium Members RobVanGelder Posted July 12, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 12, 2005 Other than the opinions stated before, if you had the patience to look around a bit before asking you would have found about 25 replies concerning "BASSON" that clearly give you an indication...... Search and read! Also the old forums have some useful info.
Matty_G
Thankyou all for your advice, I actually did take a look at the previous articles on the Basson Steadicam... I'm just in a bit of a situation now because I need something, which can hold cameras up to around 20lbs... I guess it's probably best if I wait a couple of years until I can get myself a proper steadicam rig. However, I do need to get practise on a more basic one before making the big step! Thanks again Matthew
