Hello all

First I want to say hello to everyone. My name is Daniel Reynoso, and I became interested in becoming an operator well over a year ago. So I started doing research and quickly found the SOA and then this forum.

I am 29 years old living in Chicago. And while part of me thinks that it might be to late ( my age ) for me start in this profession, another says if you really want it that bad you can do it. I remember getting a vhs camcorder for graduating from elementary school back in 1990. Now I was told it was for me, but I guess it was to make me feel good, it wasn't really mine. But I remember loving to make home movies and to learn to pan slowly and using a old wheelchair to make "smooth" runs with the camera.

Now I have a pretty good paying job, but I'm not really happy. And I remember the love of using a camera. Now I don't want to make movies per se, but I love the idea of helping out by being an operator. I've done quite a bit of lurking in the forums, and actually revisited the old forums looking for answers to my questions. (which they have)

I'm in the process of acquiring a Glidecam V-16. I would love to own a real "Steadicam" but since I'm starting out this is fine. I have no prior experience with any type of rig, so I know its going to be a challenge. I know the SOA has workshops, I will not be able to attend this year. But I hope they follow last years schedule I will be going to the one in May (if they have it then) but for now I might be attending one that Janice Arthur is putting together in Oct. I emailed her she told me its an advanced class, but that I was still welcomed to attend. Funny thing is I didn't know who she was, I saw her name in the SOA site and went to her site. I know now that she is one of the few "living legends". So I am very happy to be able to attend her workshop.

I already msg. Mikko asking a few questions. And he was nice enough to answer.

The one thing I wish I had was someone to volunteer with so I could learn more. But

I hope to learn from everyone here and in time contribute. Thanks for your time guys.

Hey Daniel,

My name is Tom and I live in Chicago and I am starting out, just waiting for my rig to show up now. I have taken Janice's workshop and the SOA workshop in Oct. 2004. Email me if you want to talk. I'll be out of town for a couple of days so I might not respond till Tuesday. I'll have a couple shoots coming up that you may be interested in coming to look at.
