Premium Members Jerry Holway Posted February 19, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 19, 2014 http://youtu.be/uImlKHFTSBE That's the link to a video Chris Fawcett made showing how it's done. He demos with two different dovetail plates (and I've seen it demo'd via FaceTime on a third plate I did not recognize - action cam? it was red). Regardless, it should work for $0 for some operators (Archer2 owners for sure) and for only a few bucks at most for everyone else (you may need to get the small threaded washer from Tiffen or make one up or maybe use a thin nut). BTW, Chris is off this forum for awhile, or he would have posted this himself. Jerry
Premium Members Tom Wills Posted February 19, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 19, 2014 It's a very cool trick! As I posted on Chris's post on Facebook, you can also do this even without the special washer/nut part from Tiffen. Just use a 1/4" camera screw's head in the clip on the bottom of the Alexa, and a washer and nut underneath the dovetail. Works the same, but is just a little tougher to tighten up. This trick also works with broadcast cameras if you get stuck without a Sony QR plate, or if you need to get rid of some weight.
