Premium Members Brandon Ziegenfuss Posted February 19, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 19, 2014 This is slightly off topic for the group, but I wanted to get some opinions. I own the "Steadicam.LA" web address. I'm NYC based and I don't have any use for this domain name. I bought it on a whim about 6 months ago when I saw it was available. My question is, can I sell this domain name? I know Steadicam is a licensed trademark. If I sell the domain to an established steadicam operator who is using genuine steadicam products, is that a trademark violation? Any thoughts or opinions. I really don't want to do anything wrong or upset anyone at Steadicam. Thanks for your time, All the best, Brandon Ziegenfuss
Premium Members William Demeritt Posted February 19, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 19, 2014 Someone more lawyerish will probably chime in, but I think if Tiffen wanted to challenge your web-squatting domain, they could, since they own the "Steadicam" trademark. You COULD sell it, but then the new owner could get in trouble and probably get annoyed with the purchase decision (and you?).
Premium Members Andre Perron SOC Posted February 19, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 19, 2014 What about contacting Tiffen directly to see what would be your option? You may end up with a free t-shirt, or something...
