Efp gimbal will not fit Mk-v post

Hi guys and girls. So, today I tried to push a Steadicam 3A/efp gimbal through my Mk-v 1.5” center post. I don’t want to force it but it seems way to tight. I wouldn’t want to damage the post.

I have had a pro gimbal on the post since I bought it, but now that I am getting ready to sell off my efp, I need to get the original gimbal back on the rig. Has anyone else delt with this issue? I know it was advertised as being compatible with all 1.5” post.

Thank you Richard. That’s too bad because it’s a great mod. Fortunately it’s the same base pattern as the pro. I’ll have to either buy a pro 1 post or just rig the original efp post with my pro 1 base clamp. It will still accomplish what the main purpose of the mod, to get the post out of the base. I will give the prospective buyer the option of buying the post as well incase they feel they will upgrade the gimbal if I still have it at the time of the sale

Guess I might have an Mk-v 1.5” carbon fiber post for sale as well now. I really like how far it extends (almost like a semi super post) and it's extremely light.

Thanks again.

One of the problem with "standards" is how they are articulated between companies.

A 1.5" post is "more or less" that diameter, held to certain tolerances set by each company to work with their own gimbals and their tolerances. If, for instance, if a post is nominally less than 1.500 with a tolerance that is such that the post never exceeds 1.500, that is one way to describe a 1.5" post.

Another company may set the nominal at 1.500 +/- several thousandths, and their gimbal will be able to clamp to the largest acceptable diameter when the gimbal tolerance is at its own minimum acceptable diameter. And there are other tolerances for roundness, straightness, that might come into play.

Swapping parts between brands might get you a situation where the tolerances overlap and all is okay, or you are at the extremes of each part and they won't mate. .005 inches is the difference between a very loose and a very tight fit at these diameters.

Everyone should have a set of good calipers and know how to use them, especially if they are into making their own "Frankenrigs."

Hi Andre

Sorry to hear you are having a problem, yes there are sadly 2x 1.5" standards - PRO and CP.

The PRO is about 6 thou bigger than the original CP post.

Please PM me if you need some help :-)

All the best

Howard
