(and some time!) Works as expected, not as sophisticated as Tiffen´s plate, it´s not keeping the center of mass of the camera on the same place, but it´s way better than nothing! FYI: To keep the center of mass in the same place, the base plate must tilt at a common point (free-air, some inches above the base plate) that is relative to the cameras CG...perhaps think of a swing where the pivot point is the bar in the air (camera's CG) and the seat is the base plate, which only moves +-20 deg and can be fixed in any of those positions... Premium Members RobVanGelder Posted January 4, 2004 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted January 4, 2004 Yes, I was looking for a way to keep the center of gravity as fixed as possible, but that would mean that the whole tilting part has to slide back and lower down as it is tilted, but that would make the whole construction much more complex and wider too. That´s why I went for a hinge system as close as possible to the center of the post so that it would not raise the camera too much. The main improvement upon the system that for instance Bearbel makes, is that it tilts the whole top stage, with FF-receiver and it cannot interfere with bars and mattebox from the camera. I might scrape some more metal off but I´m a bit afraid for the stability. At the moment, it is rock-solid and NO-TOOLS! The shot was a POV from a man looking for a girl, so fast pans left and right to spot all those beautiful Thai ladies as he walks past them...... Immeadiately I saw a big improvement in the panning and keeping the horizon level! Very happy I made it!
