1st off I think this is getting way too much - please talk to Eric privately via email, phone or face to face and please sort out what ever problems and personal issues you have with him - thank you.

I don't know how to break this to you Howie, but this is the United States of America over here, okay? Allow me to acquaint you with the Fourth Ammendment of the Constitution of the United States. Google it. Go, read.

You go onto a publicly accessed Message Board on the Internet and tell people to stop talking, because you have your doidies in a twist over words that have already been exchanged PUBLICLY, but now you don't like it and want them to shut up and go away so you can try to wrestle total control back? Look, you've got people who signed N.D.A.'s yapping all OVER the Internet about this invention of yours- and have for well over a year. And now this...THIS?.....gets your back up?

Buddy, have you got a lot to learn. And not just about how to build camera accessories, either.

Read this twice, in case it doesn't sink in the first time.

Shame On You.

Got that?

pbalsdon, I asked for that weeks ago. Apparently this is not the kind of product where people are actually allowed to see what it does. Not we peons.

Not in person.

Not on videotape.

Not on streaming video.

Meanwhile, of course, I've already seen tons of incredibly detailed illustrations of the device............. Ever heard of the United States Patent Office?

Oops, there's that whole Free Speech thingy again, jumping up and jes' getting in the way !!!

Hey all,

I just want to show my support for Dave in this matter.

I've felt this wholle AR uprising very sketchy in the way it has been handled, as I put in my first post in this thread.

I think it's totally valid for Dave to express his regret over a treatment from an individual with ties to MKV and the AR, no matter what those ties are. I have not seen any disclaimer stating different, and with the intensity of the posting here about this piece of equipment, it's hard to believe that the relationship between Eric and Howard is solelly manifacturer/costumer.

It would be nice to know what those ties really are, so we know what everybody stands for.

It actually makes perfect sense, my friend.

It was a none-too-gentle reminder of the dynamics under which we operate on this side of the pond. One does not enter a post into a thread on a message board that is used publicly, demanding that others silence themselves. It is beyond offensive, and well into censorship.

There is exactly one person on this Forum who is permitted to censor, and that is the Administrator who owns it. Unless we are all in for a hellacious surprise, Mr. Smith has absolutely no rights as an Administrator on this message board. Therefore, his demand was insulting as well as out of line.

Of course it's an international forum. When did I say it wasn't? I was responding from where I sit, to what Mr. Smith demanded. From where you sit, by all means, respond accordingly. The beauty of the Internet. :)

the Alien/Revolution is for pussies! All you guys are missing the one true innovation of the new mellinium -- I'm going with Steve Byro's new earth-shattering do-hicky he mentioned a few years back. He stands by his products and his customer service is...well...uh...I guess I'd better take some electronics and computer classes!

I'm really not sure I should be stepping in here at all. My doing so is for the sole purpose of trying to cool people off. Good intentions only...Okay

I am one of the operators that saw the AR and I bought one. I posted about its potentials because I thought it was cool and I was excited about it. I did not sign a NDA with Howard and I was never asked to not talk about it. My logic for not speaking of its mechanics was that Howard had not yet had an official unveiling of it and with all the work he has put into it I felt that HE should be doing the talking when HE feels like it. That's just my opinion(go America!!!) ;)

The more I read the posts on this thread the worse I feel for Howard. I can't imagen putting so much work into something and then to have it or the way its release is being handled slammed repeatedly. It seems like everytime Howard tries to apoligize for somebodies issue with the AR he just accidentally fans the flames. It would be no wonder to me if he wanted this thread to die here.

He has said that he will answer questions about it on his web site. He has said that when he is back in LA he will let anyone that wants to try it. I offer it as well as soon as I get mine. And he has apologized!!! come on now... I know he doesn't need me defending him but it seems like he has, in my opinion, enough class to step out of a discussion that has digressed to a school yard tiff. Using freedom of speech as a dart to throw at someone who is only trying to defuse an ugly situation? Telling him to do a Google search for the Fourth Amendment and read it? That's embarrassing and its childish... Don't take offense Peter, remember it's my freedom too. :P

For the record, I have NO allegiance to Howard. I am simply a new customer of his. I have spent a total of about five minutes speaking with him and when I did I thought that he was helping Eric Fletcher with the AR not the other way around. I'm in on my own accord here and I really don't mean to offend anyone, including Peter. Let's just let this thread die here(not trying to tell you what to do Peter) and after we have all tried the AR maybe start a new thread about it with a creative base.

Crossing My Fingers,

Fellow professionals from the USA and abroad; Lets not argue about the method of advertisment of the product, and lets not fight over the reality of the instrument. Lets find out as much about the product and embrace the new technology if it exists and if it suits our needs in our respective markets.

We are the ones who need to see it and master it, so that we can continue to provide our services to the film and TV community. If the Alien Revolution does exist make sure that Howard communicates with you and that you get a chance to see it...

Most of the reaction to the Alien seems to be less about what it is and more about fear of what it can do. If its here, its here. If it can make the Steadicam as it currently exists obsolete, then its up to all of us to make sure that Howard and MK-V treats each and every interested potential customer equally and with the utmost respect.

Don't argue over the fluff. Face the technology head on and master it!

I am very intrigued by this new sled design. I met Howard at Cinegear this year and was very impressed by his knowledge, experience, vision and energy. I felt I was meeting a fellow enthusiast in the quest for new and exciting tools for making great shots. I have not seen the AR, I was not invited to the demo, but I am very interested in seeing what it can do. One of the tragedies of our business has been the introduction of products before they are tested sufficiently in the field. It strikes me that this could be exactly what Howard is trying to avoid by going slowly and carefully, getting feedback and experience in the field with this completely new technology before making it available on a larger scale. I for one applaud his cautious approach. It has even been mentioned in this thread that technological complexity brings with it a greater chance for breakdowns. The right thing to do is test out the system on a small number of units, gather input from operators willing to test the new technology, then refine the design before making a widespread release. I am often on the cutting edge with new designs and it is an exciting but very challenging way to work with many last second modifications and repairs as unforeseen difficulties arise. Let's be patient with this slow introduction of a new design. As a few stalwarts forge ahead, I am excited to hear and see what it can do. I have no doubt there will be shots done better with a standard system and shots done better with an AR style system. One of GB's great insights was that the simpler a design, the more reliable and consistent and affordable it would be. The heart of the Steadicam is inertia and clever use of springs and bearings. There is a place for more complex technology as well, and I think there was always be a place for handheld shooting too. I look forward to seeing this new development and I applaud Howard for having the courage and energy to try to bring it to us.
