Premium Members Justin Besser Posted March 19, 2014 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted March 19, 2014 ok, so another question in relation to the Tally system .. got the tally working on my monitior , problem being now the sensor needs considerable light to get the tally to show, pointing a torch into the sensor it works, but the red light on the back of an ENG camera, it doesnt show.. is there some sort of sensitivity setting somewhere ? The resistor was set for the tally sensor from terry west, which was overly sensitive. Have you tried it on a camera? Premium Members Justin Besser Posted March 24, 2014 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted March 24, 2014 Chris, Â The sensor (made by terry west) will trigger the tally on the monitor with a flashlight directly into the sensor, but the light off the back of the camera is not powerful enough to trigger the sensor .. Â when I just have the tally sensor plugged into the cinelive without the monitor plugged in, the sensor is sensitive enough to ambient light to trigger the tally LED attached to it .. only when the 8pin is plugged into the monitor the sensor doesn't trigger anything .. is it something that I need a new sensor or I will need to have the resistor changed ? or it there something I can put inline of the sensor? I put the sensor over what is a visibly bright light, you can see it on in daytime, why does it need to be activated with more light than that? Could I make a more sensitive sensor? Premium Members chris bangma Posted March 24, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 24, 2014 The original design was for the tally to trigger from 2-24v, which would make it easy to work with a variety of setups. The tally sensor for the Cinelive did not have an on or off point, so it would trigger the tally with very little light. We had to modify some of the tally board values to get the tally light to switch on at a reasonable light level with the Cinelive, and to be more responsive. Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted March 25, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 25, 2014 The one thing I'm surprised PRO did not include in CineLive is a tally sensitivity circuit with a potentiometer. Tiffen has done this for years. I had David Hable add one to my PRO2 electronics when he modified them for HD. No matter the light source, I can dial the sensitivity in. And it will always output 5v in the Monitor Connector. Â I suppose it is possible to build a cable with this circuit, but it would require a project box and external power. Just need a chip that is a voltage comparator, which would allow you to set a threshold for the light, and when this threshold is met, it turns on. I tried attaching the sensor to the front light on a PDW700 viewfinder .. still no love .. the sensor needs a direct torch light aimed at the sensor to light up the cinetronic Tally.. But I think somebody could make a small profit off of a short, intermediate cable that goes between the Tally Port and Tally Cable on the Cinelive to offer a sensitivity adjustment potentiometer. Or would a small intermediate module that plugs into the Monitor Port and passes through all other Monitor functions be better? Similar to the PDL form factor..
