Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted April 17, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 17, 2014 I was not happy with my current, recommended, choice of lubricant (Dumonde Tech Lite), especially in very cold temperatures. My XCS gimbal became stiff at first and needed to be loosened up by moving it around a couple of times. So I did some research and ended up trying out the following bearing lubricant, with great success. It's called: Muchmore Spin Lube Bearing MMRC3506 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Muchmore-Racing-Spin-Lube-Oil-Bearings-20ml-MMRC3506-/231031577937 http://www.muchmoreusa.com/chemicals/index.html very, very low friction, compared to before this is the actual product they use: KAL-SUPERLUBE C68 http://www.kalnc.com/english/pro5_5.html

Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted April 17, 2014 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted April 17, 2014 I'm sure that's fine too, but Arri offers two different versions.

Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted April 18, 2014 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted April 18, 2014 Fyi, this is my experience in regards to my specific XCS Gimbal, I'm not trying to change PRO' s recommendation.
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted April 18, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 18, 2014 I imagine they'd have very similar requirements/performance?
Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted April 18, 2014 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted April 18, 2014 Yes, for sure, but the 'Dumonde Tech Lite' that I was using was just not performing that way I wanted it too.
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted April 18, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 18, 2014 how much are the bearing for the XCS gimbal? If you run dry you'll obviously wear them out sooner than you would with a drop or two of oil. I am just curious.
Brett Manyluk
Thanks for the post. Going to try it on my XCS gimbal. It's still practically winter here, so worth a shot.

I am just curious. prices should be similar to the $800 PRO gimbal bearing? not sure why i would run it dry though, lubrication reduces friction and if you clean your gimbal every couple of month, dirt is not an issue
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted April 19, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 19, 2014 A dry bearing (if a good bearing) is much slicker than one with even one drop in it. Clean out an old gimbal bearing and spin it, then add a drop and spin again. I would have never thought of running bit dry until I heard of a few guys doing it and asked Jack. He confirmed that many do it and it's way slicker, but beats up the bearing.
