Mikko Vuokko
I'd like to get some feedback from you vet's on which zoom control you prefer and why. I've got a 10 pin Fuji hanging on an Iki. I've done a little research on this, but experience from the field speaks volumes. Thanks in advance guys...and Ladies, Cheers, Mikko
Premium Members Osvaldo Silvera SOC Posted June 16, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 16, 2014 Hi Mikko, You will find 3 popular systems out there, two of them are the most popular and the least is what I use. The most popular is the Stanton system for live/broadcast jobs, then there is the G Zoom system, and the least popular I would venture to say is the Bebob ZOE ENG8 or ENG 12 zoom control, coupled with the BFD Hardwire zoom control box. I modified the box and the hold down strap/tab on my ZOE to hold the BFD box under my gimbal handle. I've tried the Stanton and have slowly been getting used to it, but not completely sold on it yet, I have also tried the G Zoom, and although build very well, the distance between the zoom rocker and the focus knob is too much for me, maybe my hands are small?, The Zoe ENG8 and 12 have served me well for the last 10+ years of quite a bit of live and live to tape work., I do now use a Stanton Motor with both the Fuji and Canon gears, which works great on most every Canon or Fuji broadcast zoom out there. Then have Jim at Bartech modify a receiver to run in Hi or Low power mode and make you a custom stanton motor cable. This will allow you to switch the receiver to low mode and control the Stanton motor with less force then Hi mode where the receiver is then better at controlling larger more powerful motors such as the M-1, or CP SLD or Heden Analog motors. Hope that helps a bit, Ozzie
Premium Members Brad Olander Posted June 16, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 16, 2014 For me, the Stanton blocked too much of the screen. I have the Libec, but it doesn't feather well. My old J7 works better. I am currently a fan of the G-Zoom, and Erik has been very helpful. (I also like his headset for live work.) Good luck, Brad Olander
