Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted June 25, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 25, 2014 David Hable at Cramped Attic has modified jumper blocks for my Gen II base in the past. My favorite work of his is the 3-plate parallel 12v block. Any plate you want to put a battery on with diode protection for back feeding. Supports hot swapping. I don't see any reason why you couldn't buy a Gen IV block and have him make it into what you desire..
Premium Members William Demeritt Posted June 25, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 25, 2014 I can't imagine it's a problem. The jumper blocks are simply the specific shape of aluminum with banana plugs and short copper wires soldered between the banana plugs. Premium Members Brian Freesh Posted June 25, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 25, 2014 James, just want to confirm, you're talking about standard jumper blocks? Not modified Gen IV blocks?
chad mason
Let me clear up a little confusion here regarding the jumper blocks. The gen 3 uses the same jumper blocks PRO has been using for years. They are exactly the same as the ones found on the Gen 2 system. The gen 4 battery rack uses a proprietary jumper block design to only be used on the gen 4. There are 6 ITT gold plugs on the bottom row of a gen 3 jumper block and 6 corresponding female ITT's on the gen 3 battery rack, this allows us to wire all 3 batteries independent of each other. The gen 4 jumper block has 4 ITT gold plugs on the bottom row with 4 corresponding female ITT's on the battery rack. Although it is possible to put a gen 3 jumper block on a gen 4, 2 of the 6 plugs will not be connected to the battery rack due to their female counterparts not existing and thus it will not function as designed. There is also a wiring difference as to which battery is doing what between the gen 3 and gen 4. We do not recommend trying to use anything that it wasn't specifically designed for. We do not wire custom jumper blocks for either the gen 3 or gen 4 battery racks. We offer 3 for the gen 3 and 1 for the gen 4. I hope this helps. Premium Members Tommy Stork Posted June 25, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 25, 2014 We only make one jumper block for the GenIV battery rack. We DO NOT wire custom jumper blocks for any reason. If an operator wishes to have someone modify a current jumper block or make an entirely new jumper block with non PRO wiring, that is their prerogative AND will absolve PRO of any responsibility should a power issue occur. Premium Members James Davis Posted June 25, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 25, 2014 So Chad.... I used an original/non gen 4 jumper block from optical support on the Gen 4 base to run two batteries at the bottom in 24V powering an alexa XT with various accessories. It seemed to work just as intended, with no problems, what is Pro's official position on this?
Premium Members Brian Freesh Posted June 26, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 26, 2014 Thanks Chad, I get what I was missing (that the blocks will all physically fit)
Premium Members Thomas English Posted June 26, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 26, 2014 So that is simple enough. You got to get the new Gen IV jumper blocks and hack them but your not allowed to cry to GPI-PRO when you fry the camera and rig. Fair enough. There are all sorts of funny electrical; floating negative issues that fry BOXX TX's, WEVIS, My Testicals and ARRI ALEXAS that PRO or other manufacturers don't want to take responsibility for. Knock yourselves out. Buy more blocks but LABEL them correctly!
Ben Kaiser
Is there any v-mount option for the gen IV rack?
