Learning and shadowing + SOA?

Hello Everyone,

This is my second time asking advise and opinion at this forum. The first time was very helpful, thanks.

I just graduated college and Im moving to the Dallas, TX area for the summer. I have a paid internship at a TV station so hopefully I can just stay there. I purchased the Steadicam Pilot a few months ago and I have used it for a few video productions that I did for school. Also I recently used it for couple video jobs I was hired to do. I do realize that it takes a lot of practice and learning to get better using the steadicam.

I like to know if there is some type of group or individuals who are more experienced that live in the area who may be interested on having some help so I can shadow and learn from someone with experience?

I am planning on attending one the Tiffen workshops in the near future, Im just saving money for it at the moment. My other questions are about the Steadicam Operators Association.

How important it is to be a part of this association?

When it would be the best time to join?

How much experience it is required to join?

If anyone can provide some of this info it would be great.

Thanks in advance!

feel free to email me at rsmediaprod@gmail.com

either first or Second edition, then order the DVD for the EFP training video, between those two items, you will have the answers to hundreds of questions new folks ask themselves and others. it's all knowledge, you will love the book and the video, A great job was done on both. Take your time, read the book, let it digest, watch the video let it sink in, then even if your not sure of all of the terminologies in either, When your on a set or your next job and someone brings up a term that was in the book or video, it will not be as alien a term or concept as before, it's all a learning process, and very fun at the same time. Some folks take a course and learn that it really isn't for them, and that saves them time and money in the future, but it still teaches them what this tool can do, and it prepares them for any future in TV or Film production. I taught a small private course here in Miami many years ago and one student was an Audio mixer, he learned it wasn't for him at the time, but he appreciated learning about it, and now in the future when he's a director, producer, etc.. He will know the best way to use the tool and how NOT to use it. All good.

Good luck out there, and Fly Safe.

Thank you Osvaldo,

I did purchased the book a few months ago and Im on my 2nd time going through it. I love this book. Yes the first time I read it I have no clue what most things were, but I feel like Im starting to get to know the terms and a some other stuff. I probably need to read it a few more times to get the whole thing in my head.

Thanks for the advise, and yes Im taking my time and Im trying to be very patience with this. Im a very ambitious person but thanks to my wife she helps me slow down and take things step by step. My next short term goal is to go to one of the workshops. Hopefully I can do some shooting once Im in Texas so I can keep practicing. Thanks again. I really appreciate how some of you that are in the biz for a while and have the experience take the time to answer questions to newbies like me.
