Docking Collar won't stay.

I wan't really sure where to put this so General Discussion seemed best. I have an XCS 2" post and I have a Jerry Hill Balancing Bracket with his 2" docking collars. The docking collar over the course of the day constantly slips under the weight of the camera and eventually ends up resting under my upper electronics box. I know that this pressure on the box can't be good. I've measured both parts with a micrometer. Post 1.999 collar 1.946. So in reality the clamp should bite without a problem but yet it keeps on slipping. I tried a piece of tape around the post but it didn't work either. Has anyone else ever had this problem? I think a thin plastic ring would take care of it but I'm open to all suggestions.

I had the opposite experience and needed to shave off material on the collar. Ask Jerry to try out several. Seams like his tolerances are bigger.

Get the docking collar from Greg it has a stop pin that acts as a safety for the UCP locking ring which the docking ring is best under

Rod, try another of Jerry's rings. I believe you're using a PRO/XCS hybrid like me so you have a PRO style quick release at the top. These were designed to be used as a docking collar so I wouldn't worry about the upper junction box too much. I actually leave my hill collar wrapped over the PRO quick release collar (in essence resting against the upper Juntion Box, but it should be tight enough that it's not freely pushing on that J-boxl thus try another collar). End result is that this allows you to get the gimbal higher on the post. You do need to periodically check that the quick release has not come loose though.

Thanks for the tip Alec, but I've tried that also and it actually has less of a grab.

if it's a split collar, take one half and slide it along some good quality sand paper, 200grit, then 800 grit , With good form and patience you'll shave of a bit and there will be more space to tighten the collar even more.

At this moment when the collar is still slipping, does it shut all the way to where the two halves touch?

 

They should ALMOST touch, but not touch on either side when tight.

It looks like the problem has been solved. A friend of mine had one of Jerry's older split collars (the one with a screw on each side) that he was kind enough to give me. Because of the two screws you can lock down each side equally. I truly believe it has a better grab than the one with the hinge. Osvaldo, what would happen is I would dock the sled and over the course of the day it would start to slip and then all of a sudden bang! The ring would be smashed up against the upper electronics. I'm now looking for another split collar for low mode.
