Thanks guys; it'll either be an XL2 with C-series and a 1000ft mag, ramping to 50fps, or an arricam Lt with JDC anamorphics and 1000ft mag, ramping to 50fps also. Ill post some photos of the shoot when its over.

Thomas, trimming the battery during the shot would screw it up dude. remember we get paid to keep the lock offs locked off!:)

thomas...love you like brothuh from a different mothuh, but that is a crazy messed up idea. :D and steve has a nexus sled i believe. easier to just to a slight trim with the top stage. i still think a 10 min shot with a few takes and 1000' mag will stress your arm in ways it shouldn't. good luck though. post the shot on line.

Your right... a crazy idea, sorry gentlemen. So i won t mention having the electric fan at different settings pointing at the bottom of the sled. Or the electric water pump pumping water between 2 large bottles one on the front and one on the back of the sled. . . . actually maybe thats not such a bad idea..... hmmm maybe I should join a different forum.

Very interested as to how you get on .

Hi Thomas,

no it changed to a dbox a while back. Unless i was using Tiffens motorised topstage, i wouldnt be interested in trimming during a shot - no matter how light ur touch you'd still see it on camera.

Im using gregs XCS plates and they are fantastic at finding the right cog of the camera from the start so provided i use the throat extender on the XL2 i should have a perfectly vertical mag and no need to trim during the length of the shot.

The water tanks sound like a good idea though:)

Good job DJT !! I was reading through the posts and wondering how nobody mentioned that at 24 or 25 fps a 1000 ft mag lasts about 10 min....

I think ,if you have the choice, 435, 400 ft mag, and just tell the director to have a fucking extra walk across the frame and use it as a whipe and cut it there!!!

Offcourse, Stephen, if you had my super smooth frictionles arm post on your arm everything would be easier!! Just joking!

I remembered your name ... remember you got in touch with me about it.

Hasn't the director thought about shooting with the cinealta hd cam?

I' know it has nothing to do with shooting anamorphic but sometimes one has to find solutions like this ... anyone seen the russian arc? Or With the panasonic you can even ramp up to 60 fps!!

Just to put an end note on this thread -

We eventually agreed on a compromise of a single unbroken 10 minute shot, running at 24fps, followed by two 400 ft shots, only the last of which needed to have speed ramps.

The 10 minute shot was on a Millenium XL, with a 40mm c-series anamorphic lens, 1000ft mag & film, preston with two motors, marell transmitter, pv mattebox and 81 ef filter. Due to the nature of the location the tranmitted signal was inconsistant so i carried my onboard mini dv camera for playback. The whole rig was just within the weight range of my 3A arm. I needed to mount the preston and transmitter above the mattebox for clearance reasons; thank god for velcro and rubber bands. Flubbed the first take, collapsed on the 2nd, took a long rest and nailed it on the 3rd. Boy did i feel like a rock star when i did:)

My V2 gimbal performed amazingly well as did my klassen vest (could not have done this shot without it!!); and i was sooo proud of my trusty old 3A arm.

After the 10 minute shot the other two shots (on a pan-arri 435) were a piece of cake. I have to say that the shot was for me one of the most difficult things i have ever attempted with the rig, and i have so much more respect for those of you who have done this length of shot before (im talking about you mathias!). Was it worth it? It was fun for me to do but personnally i think it makes for a boring shot content wise, but it was a very deliberate stylistic choice on the part of the director and DP and they were thrilled with the results. If it ever gets posted online ill let you know.post-30-1127576952_thumb.jpg

Congrats on working this out. Thanks for posting the pict of the 1000' setup, gnarly with the FI+Z on top, but whatever makes it work, right? :D

A small technical note (sorry I wasn't following this thread earlier):

The Arricam LT and Millennium XL only run up to 40fps.

The Millennium XL2 will do 50fps.

I wish Arri would build that capability into the LT, I've needed 48fps so many times and had to switch bodies. I suspect that ARRI intentionally left the LT at 40 because it helps to validate the heavier and bulkier (and quieter) Arricam ST.
