payment as a steadycamoperator

Hello,

I need some help in figuring out what payment to ask for as a steadycamoperator. Where can I find some guidelines?

Of course there are differences in what kind of job, commercials, cinema, tv-movie or tv-show. Additionally it of course makes a difference in what country you are working, what kind of rig you own, how good you are and what is expected at the job. Speciffics are of course almost impossible, but any guidelines would be a great help.

At the moment I am about to work for a German TV Show, with the Arri Alexa, and I am really not sure how much to ask for. I did some TV-show pilots and a lot of student-movies, musik-videos and the like, but I am not sure if the money I got was reasonable.

I know that nobody likes to talk numbers, but I heard professional veteran operators complain about the price dumping of the new generation, and i really don`t want to be a part fo that problem.

Any help would be appreciatet greatly.

I always tell ops to start with reg cam op rate in your area.

Now, how much skill or equipment can u add to that?

Those are difficult to answer but at least a starting point.

Are u shooting one shot for a resume or the entire day of a music video?

Good luck

Janice

Thank you for your advice. Sadly the operators in my area aren`t very talkative, but with your comments and other topic I found on this forum I have put together this formular.

Payment for Cameraoperator x 1,25 + price of your equipment x 0,02 = payment for steadycamoperator + rental for equipment = total payment

Does this seem about right to you?

Not sure if I follow your math . . . . . and we still don't know where your located so we can't help you there either.

But if you can't talk to other operators in your area, then call some rental houses, its pretty rare any of them rent steadicam gear but if they do then you'll have a baseline amount to rent your gear.

As for amount to charge for operating min $800 for 8 hrs for live its more $

Gear Min $600 usually $800-$1000 a day, depends on what gear your bringing to the table

Hope that helps
