I went to do a drop time test and when the camera came back up it was tilted down. So the plate slipped forward. I put some gaff on the smart side of the plate where it locks down against the clamp, which seems to be the only point of contact with plate on that side. That helped but last night even that had just a tiny bit of slippage during a prolonged take of tilting straight down. The clamp with the 5/32 screw seems to be bound up. Whereas I used to be able to push it back and forth when loose now it doesn't move. At this point it is still very functional. And its a bit annoying having to deal with the worst case scenario, in my mind, as I try do what it do. Hope this makes sense. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Figure out how to back it out without ruining the threads and replace the 5/32. If the clamp is not moving a drop of oil on the clamp could solve your simple maintenance problem that has finally shown up as slippage of your dovetail. Make sense? Premium Members Michael Desiderio Posted July 1, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 1, 2015 I'm thinking the problem is this silly little latch I cleaned up the gunk build up that was between the stage and the tightening mechanism and that actually helped an enormous amount, but there is still a small amount of slippage. The latch is just...really old and worn out I think. Is there any replacement available anywhere, and specifically one that is maybe a millimeter deeper on the connecting side? Not sure about price, should be less than that. Might get rid of the lever and do a bigger clamping surface. Either way its going to be a little bit since I have other projects to finish first. Moderators Janice Arthur Posted July 3, 2015 Moderators Report Share Posted July 3, 2015 Hi all; My dovetail plates eventually were so worn that they were dangerous. I found XCS plates were a much tighter fit and much more rigid. They also hold follow focus rods very securely. Really changed the way I attach a camera. They were $ money but boy did they work. If slippage is your issue and the lock is hard to replace this is an off the shelf solution with other perks. Janice Have a good, busy season.
