Steadicam tally light help

Danny Mackenzie

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I am hoping someone can help me out. I have a shadow v with a transvideo evolution. I have the tally that was sent with my gear. A sensor that attaches to camera tally light, a little led that splits off for talent and the other end is 4pin into nose box tally. Can not get the tally to light up. Tally light works on monitor because I tested it in the menu functions.

Any similar problems? Solutions?

I have tried two different tally cables on two different rigs... Ugh

Hi Danny,

Theres a couple things that you need to test

1 - Plug in your tally cable to the sled

2 - Power up your sled

3 - with a flashlight hit your light sensor, it should illuminate the small talent LED, if it doesn't then you have a faulty cable, maybe the sensor is off or one of the leads came loose

4 - If it did illuminate then plug in your monitor with the transvideo multi pin, making sure your using the 12 v side not the 24 v side.

5 - In your Monitor theres a menu that allows you to access, whats called active high or active low, this pertains to how the sled is wired for your tally, I believe its built with active Low, you should be able to toggle though and see it work and then set the other way see it turn off

6 - If either of these things are not working, then its time to get it over to Tiffen to see whats going on with the cable or in the nose box

Hope thats helps

So tried these things. The Active high, Active low doesnt exist in the tally menu. Also looked this up in the manual. Could this be a possible software update issue you think? Used a different power source and was able to get the tally to light up (not through the rig). I contacted Tiffen but now I am thinking it may be a monitor issue.... Should I have to do a software update on a new monitor out of the box?

The Active High and Active low settings are not in the Tally menu, they are in a technical menu on monitor set up, I don't recall which one exactly

But what concerns me more is that you should be getting the talent LED to illuminate even if the monitor is not receiving tally.

This says to me that the circuit is not being made complete someplace.

May have to be a call to talk you through a trouble shoot with Tiffen . . . .
