Moviecam Compact MK2

I'm about to use a Compact MK2 vesion on a feature and I don't have access to the camera util the day before shooting; I wonder if it uses the same power connector as the older vesion or they went ARRI style (2 pin Fischer) and how about Remote on/off connector (3 pin lemo as 24V ARRI's) any help?

The one I just used in NYC was still a 4-Pin XLR with (-) on pin 1 and (+24 Volts) on pin 2 (or 3, don't remember because the PRO power cables are wired for both). BUT, I understand that a lot of Moviecams outsider the US never used the 4-Pin XLR to begin with, so... back to square one.

 

Remote run was the three pin Lemo, but most Moviecams I've seen here are that anyway.

Hi mathias, how are you?

 

This is a tricky one.

In the UK there are 3 standards for the moviecam..

 

One is the ARRI 24v

the other in Panavision 24v and the 3rd is un modifed moviecam 24v 4 pin XLR with the power on pins 1 and 2, not sure of the polarity, but we do it as a cable (thankfully I don't make the cables)

 

If in doubt best ask - bring your PV and ARRI and a spare 12v 4 pin and a solidering iron.

 

Hope it goes well and remember if all else fails you can run it from a battery belt - not pretty but it works.

I've used Moviecams with both 2 pin fischer and the 4 pin xlr, but remember: The Moviecam does not like high voltages. If you use Anton Bauer Batteries, you can supply as much as 31V, even 32V and the camera doesn't like that. Normally rental houses have a voltage regulator box.

In the last feature I used a Moviecam, the rental house didn't have the box, so I had for the first time, to use a battery discharger, and be very aware of the voltage. It would work fine all the way to 28V, but more than that, the motor in the mag shuts down, doesn't take and then you have a jam...
