Walter Klassen Pro arm Mod

Has anyone used this piece from Walter Klassen on their pro arm?

I am looking for a way to remove the rod end's from the pro arm which have been prone to breaking (albeit when the arm has been used in the wrong orientation)

 

This mod looks good but I am unsure of how the arm still functions without the pivot point in the standard pro socket block (where it is sprung back)

 

I would be interested to hear from any one that has used it...

Hi Henry,

 

I'm not sure if you remember when we were talking about this last week but this is specifically for use with the back mount vest and the lack of pivot is not an issue because the pivot becomes inert as the socket block is reversed from it's normal orientation and is therefore against the stop that prevents it flipping too far on the spring. The only point at which the arm pivots is at the aircraft pin which is plenty to get the clearance from the front of the Klassen vest.

I wouldn't recommend this modification for one reason: if you eliminate the rod end bearings, the force that was once applied to them will now be transferred to the next weakest link. What is that next weakest link? I don't care to find out. We replace rod end bearings on a fairly regular basis from operators who use back mounted vests and have rod ends break while vehicle mounted. This is a very cheap fix compared to replacing a link or combination of parts.

I have the block and it works great for the Klassen vest. As Tommy implied, don't be a moron and push it. As much of a pain the rod end bearings are on any arm, they are the cheapest part to replace (and should be every few years).

If you use this modification you void the warrantee on your PRO arm. You can replace any broken parts due to this modification but it will come out of your own pocket. Refer to my post above.

Thanks Tommy I appreciate your thoughts - yes I have been in touch with PRO and they do not recommend using the mod for the same reason.

 

I will just change the rod ends regularly from now...
