Royalties

Nope. That is reserved for "above the line" people (Writers, Producers, and Directors - including Assistant Directors) and actors. We craft people are considered below the line. Its really determined by your Union (Assistant Directors are still part of the Directors' Guild).

Thanks Alec. I asked since my union just made a deal that we get this. Networks and production companies are complaining about this.

Royalties have been a thing for directors and actors here in the past.

So I wondered what the deal was in other countries.

Hi Lars,

A couple of years ago I was on a big project where the production company didn't have a sufficient budget, instead they gave the entire technical crew a contract for 5% royalties (per person) of the entire profit the film would eventually make. That being said, only once the original budget would reach the double break even point. In other words, I got suckered into that promise because everybody soon realized this film wouldn't make all that much at the box office.

I really hope you end up with a much better deal, don't let them push down your price with the promise of royalties.

Friendly greetings

Nils "yeey I own 5% of a movie" Valkenborgh
