Does anyone have any good shipping companies they use?

Thanks

Dan

Dan;

I don't have a specific shipping company but the trick with risk it to insure your gear with their insurance for the amount of your deductible.

Of course their insurance is a bad deal for its cost so I wouldn't use it for the entire amount but for the deductible in a risky situation it may make sense.

(Also, really high insurance coverage will make them suspicious and they may want to open the cases.)

Recently I've shipped a lot of stuff with FedEx GROUND. It takes 4-5 days to go cross country, which is often too slow, but the rates are surprisingly really LOW if you have the time (i.e.. wrapping a job then going on vacation before heading back to LA).

The waybills are different from FedEx Express, but it all works with your (or production's) FedEx account so you can go on-line and set up ship-to/from addresses and print out all of the stuff. FedEx also has those nice handle tags so you don't have to slap stickers and pouches all over your cases. Of course everything can be tracked and FedEx is Kinkos and so the drop stations and supplies are everywhere in the US and most are open 24 hours. :-)

Fed Ex All the way. Anybody else up here in Canada is either a) anoying to deal with, or B) a crappy way to loose gear in a random warehouse.

In Canada, watch out for Air Canada cargo, Loomis is pretty shady at times, and UPS may be reliable, but if you miss the drop, they're a pain in the ass to get your gear from in a rush.

And you're right about the value claim. Everybody gets jumpy when you tell them what it's really worth. Make sure your steadi insurance will cover it when it is shipped
