Omar Sawalha
Hi, I 've been practicing on the zephyr for a few months now and have tried operating in low mode with out the f bracket and clamp and am finding it very difficult in keeping the camera frame steady does anyone have any advice as to how i can achieve a smoother movement or any techniques to shooting in low mode? or do i need to purchase a low mode kit to achieve this? Kind Regards Omar
Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted January 31, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 31, 2015 The low mode bracket will help getting your gimbal in the right position which will help. Have you taken a workshop? Your posture and hand position might need some tweaking. You can "cheat" by making your sled a bit more bottom heavy (meaning camera side heavy). The final secret is practice, and yes, just buy the damn bracket (you only need the one part bracket, not the kit with the handle clamp)
Premium Members Lars Erik Posted February 1, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 1, 2015 First, operating in low mode is more of a challenge than in regurlar mode. At least I think so. That said, as an operator, you're expected to be able to hold the frame, regardless of your operating position. As Victor and Chris says, buy the freakin' bracket. It will make life easier. There are certain tools you're expected to have in your kit. Low mode bracket is one of them. Is saving $200 on a bracket worth it if it may cause you to loose jobs due to poor operating? Omar Sawalha
Thanks for the advice. Ive just order the F-bracket. But just wanted to know once i have completely balanced the sled do i need the move the Gibal higher up when in low mode or do i keep it the same and just flip the camera upside down? Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted February 1, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 1, 2015 You need to move the gimbal so the sled stands naturally with the camera at the bottom. All this is explained in the Steadicam Operator's Handbook http://smile.amazon.com/Steadicam%C2%AE-Operators-Handbook-Jerry-Holway/dp/024082380X Also get the EFP DVD http://www.ebay.com/itm/STEADICAM-EFP-TRAINING-DVD-WORKSHOP-STEADYCAM-GLIDECAM-/271007608431 and Finally look for a workshop near you. (this is the most important! I have a Zephyr too and took two workshops so far, I strongly recommend it) (there are other workshops available but these are the two I took)
