Steadicam Monitor

I think I have messed up. I purchased the Steadicam Pilot AA 5.8" LCD screen for my blackmagic cinema camera. I wan't thinking when I purchased, more excited about the Steadicam than the monitor. It's a standard monitor. I figured I would just find an adapter for my Cinema Camera to plug in the monitor, but I don't know that I can do this. I would be willing to purchase the HD/SDI monitor if I it's offered. Is there an adapter for my LCD to the BMC? If not, is there a way to buy the HD/SDI monitor and replace the LCD monitor on the Steadicam?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mike

Hi Mike, You can use a downconverter to transform the HD/SDI signal into a Composite SD signal. http://decimator.com/Products/MiniConverters/decimator2/decimator2.html (needs power)

Or you can look for a new monitor https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aln7iPn_kB2sdHowWElqVk1HWlRkdjgxcjJKN01XRGc#gid=0 Not sure which monitor would work with your AA batteries though.

OK, thanks for the reply. Releases much stress. I looked up the decimated. My black magic cinema camera has SDI out. What does the steadycam have? It looks like an SDI. Will I need to order another line.

I messed up on the power supply too. Had to order the V Mount to replace the AAA battery bank.

Mike, don't confuse a BNC connector with SDI protocol. BNC connectors can be used for many things. The monitor you have uses an analog signal, you'll have to use a Decimator or equivalent to change the format of the signal from HD-SDI to analog (composite).

BNC: The shape of the connector (locks with a bayonet) used for many connections, antennas, SD video signal, HD-sdi... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BNC_connector

HD-SDI: type of signal that goes through the cable. A digital video format for HD http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_digital_interface

Your sled has a BNC at the top stage, but the monitor at the other end is SD-video (or composite video http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composite_video)

You will need to take the HD-SDI signal from you camera to a Converter from HD-SDI to SD-video (the Decimator 2). This converter has the same BNC connectors for the HD in and the SD out, but the signal inside the cable is now different.

I am sorry you missed your order, Indeed V-mount is easier to work with (and in the end a huge time and money saver vs the millions of AA batteries). Maybe you can contact your seller to do an exchange?

Before buying that converter, make sure you have a plan to power it. (I am not sure there is a power connector on the top stage...)

Maybe getting an HD monitor will be the best option in the end...
