Dave Schwandner
I'm curious if anyone can give advice to flying international with batteries. I have a gig coming up in Israel and have 6 Anton Bauer Dionic HC's in my kit. I have an SKB case for my batteries with laser cut foam inserts for each individual battery. Everything I read online regarding flying with lithium ion batteries seems a bit ambiguous. I have flown domestically (kit gets checked) many times with 4 AB HC's in my camera package and never had an issue. Please respond if you have any insight! Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted February 3, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 3, 2015 Hey Dave, this is the best resource: http://video.antonbauer.com/Support/TransportationInformation Basically, you can carry on as many HC batteries as you you like, but if you have them in checked, each battery must be installed on a piece of equipment. Dave Schwandner
Thanks for the info Alan. I've read that on their site. Thanks for the addition input!
Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted February 3, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 3, 2015 If you have a battery that is not on a piece of a battery plate, place a piece of electrical tape on the connectors.
Premium Members Benjamin Verhulst Posted February 5, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 5, 2015 Yea, you can't check spare batteries if they're loose. You wanna be careful with it - there were reports a few years ago of a cameraman being fined something like $75k for having LiOn batteries in his checked baggage. Totally different regulations if you're shipping, lots of labeling involved... Here's a cheat sheet for you - http://www.iata.org/whatwedo/cargo/dgr/Documents/LithiumBattery_PassengerFlyer.jpg
Premium Members Janice Arthur Posted February 5, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 5, 2015 Dave Are batteries avail at your destination? The beauty of AB is that they're widely avail worldwide and maybe will save even money with all the shipping restrictions? Maybe u just take one or two as a safety net or ship all your batts ahead via fed ex? Just an idea. Janice
Dave Schwandner
Hey Janice, I think what I'm going to do is carry my batts on in a carry-on. Thanks for all the input everyone!
Premium Members Lawrence Karman Posted February 12, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 12, 2015 Carry-on no problem. I also bring along printed documentation from AB as to what wattage the batteries are just in case. Can't put them in the belly of the plane. I think Janice's suggestion about local sourcing is excellent too. And so is Janice.
