Premium Members Charles Papert Posted February 22, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 22, 2015 A young operator friend is needing to do the learning-the-gear-head routine. He's planning on going to a rental house but I personally think it's great to have around the house so you can do it any time of day. Wondering if anyone in LA would have an old Mini-Worral, Arrihead etc. that is parked on a shelf that they would rent for a few weeks at a generous rate. Also--did anyone ever see that Hurricane Wheels setup we talked about a few years ago when it was in development, where their wheelset came with software that simulated various types of environments, so you practice via the computer? Premium Members Jarrett P. Morgan Posted February 23, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 23, 2015 I have a worral that is currently sitting in my apartment in LA while I am here in GA on a show. He is welcome to play with it if he wants. I can arrange him picking it up from my roommate as long as he is willing to carry it down the stairs! Premium Members Thomas Valko Posted February 23, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 23, 2015 I have a Worrall in great shape (just rebuilt the whole thing last year) sitting in my apartment in LA. I'm out of town on a show until the beginning of April. Anyone looking to get some practice with a geared head feel free to drop me a line!
Premium Members Guille Moreno Posted March 16, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 16, 2015 Also--did anyone ever see that Hurricane Wheels setup we talked about a few years ago when it was in development, where their wheelset came with software that simulated various types of environments, so you practice via the computer?Looking for a gear head to practice I came across the Hurricane wheels, I contacted Matthias and ended up buying them with the software simulator. You can now also use them to operate Movi and Ronin gimbals, but I only bought them with the computer simulator. The software it's quite basic, but it does the trick, and it's very handy and easy to take with you anywhere if you wanted. I used them a lot in my hotel room when I was away for a film last year. The wheels are well built, I'm more used to remote heads than actual gear heads, and in comparison the Hurricane wheels will give a real enough feel of operating, so for practicing and getting the feel for the "wheels" I think is more than enough and definitely a cheaper option. You do have to figure out a way of fixing the wheels, I end up using a cheese plate and two ball heads.Hope this helps in case your friend wants to have something to keep around and not spend the money in a gear head.
