Emir Cemanovic
Hello! So i lost my Allen Keys for my Steadicam Zephyr. The Zephyr is suposed to be "tools free" but i need the Allen key that came with it to losen up the handle on the gimbal. Do anyone know the right size of the Allen Keys Needed for the Zephyr, Please comment below! This is what i mean, the screw at the end of the handle. Ps. i dont own the image. Nathan Chapman
I don't have my Zephyr with me at the moment, but from Film Tools [ http://www.filmtools.com/steadicam-zephyr-hd-standard-vest-v-mount-zebxhdbvzz.html ] it's a 5/32" allen wrench - which sounds about right, from my memory. I'll check for you when I go into the studio tomorrow.
Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted March 19, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 19, 2015 Just buy yourself a set of Standard/ASE allen wrenches at any hardware store. Should be able to get a cheap one for about $5 then your set. ~Jess
Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted March 19, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 19, 2015 Don't use a hex key on that cam lever. It's very easy to over tighten and damage.
Nathan Chapman
Don't use a hex key on that cam lever. It's very easy to over tighten and damage. How do you tighten the gimbal clamp then? I've had to regularly tighten about 1/4 turn, just as the bolt naturally loosens... It's not tightening until tight (i.e. woodworking), it's tightening to maintain tension on the cam lever. Alan, is this right?
Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted March 19, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 19, 2015 Here is how: at home, remove the screw place some purple Loctite (not blue, not red!) on the threads and rebuild the clamp. Tighten where it is still possible to open and close while it's not slipping during a whip pan with a heavy camera. Let it dry. Don't ever touch the screw again. If you over tighten. You will damage bend the screw and you will have to get a replacement assembly from Tiffen (and its a pain).

Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted March 19, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 19, 2015 Size is 9/64 for the gimbal clamp and post clamp. PS: Do yourself a favor and get a set of folding hex keys: http://smile.amazon.com/Bondhus-12533-GorillaGrip-Fold-up-Triple/dp/B000E7VG4S While you're ordering on Amazon (smile) get the loctite I mentioned before: http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B004FCO276
