Premium Members Ramon Engle Posted April 4, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 4, 2015 Guys and Gals, I use the American Steadicam Stand and the wheels provided by American are clunky and difficult at best. Does anyone know of a solution to this? Who makes a better wheel? Ramon
Premium Members Philip J. Martinez SOC Posted April 4, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 4, 2015 Backstage has a few options. But you have to call they are not in the cataloge
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted April 4, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 4, 2015 I got a set of wheels from American that they usually put on their crankavator stands. A bit big at 10" but smooth over cracks in the sidewalks and easier over cables. The wheels have great brakes and also lock the rotation.I hate the normal 8" casters most use...the breaks suck and the rotation does not lock. I think inovativ also has some that are similar to the American ones?
Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted April 6, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 6, 2015 Twojay Dhillon just made a set of diy pneumatic wheels for his. Maybe he can chime in.
Premium Members James Davis Posted April 6, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 6, 2015 Ron, just curious mate, how did you manage to attach those wheels to the steadicam stand? I would love to see pics. Cheers mate.

Premium Members Brant S. Fagan SOC Posted April 7, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 7, 2015 I fabbed up a set for my Combo stand from 6" Wagner pneumatic casters with two having brakes and one just a plain swivel. Less overall height and weight gain for hauling but still capable over cables, cracks, and other set flotsam. I used the stand "feet" that came with the standard Mathews' wheels and added plates to capture the caster plates. I'll check for some pics later today. Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted April 7, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 7, 2015 The American Grip 10" casters. A little big for my taste, but really nice and work very well. The locking rotation being independent of the brake is nice. I am in so many small locations In rarely use any wheels at all ( my stand as the wider spread so no bags needed). If I could not have my cart I would use them more. Ron
Premium Members James Davis Posted April 8, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 8, 2015 Nice Ron! Thanks for posting, did you mod those wheels at all to fit the Steadicam stand or they just went straight on?
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted April 8, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 8, 2015 I am not sure the mounts are an off the shelf item at American, but they made them very quickly (haven't been over there in a while). They were toying with the idea of making them. The wheels/locks etc are standard on their large stands. If this set up was with 8" tires it really would be awesome.
Premium Members Afton Grant Posted April 8, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 8, 2015 So Ron, when you go off-roading, do you have to put those wheels back on your Hummer, or is this a second set?
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted April 8, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 8, 2015 They are unfortunately too small for the humma but the stand with these wheels can be deployed as an escape vehicle when (not if) I break down. They do great of road.
Premium Members Ramon Engle Posted April 14, 2015 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted April 14, 2015 Thanks everyone. Ron I'm calling American today. How much do the wheels weigh?

Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted April 15, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 15, 2015 Oh my gawd. Uh...I would explore other options! Mine were pricey but no where near that. Lance must have given me the super buddy deal. Maybe I will sell you mine if you promise not to tell him ;-) Wish they were 8"
