Steadicam Cinema Products PROVID monitor

Hello all,

 

I purchase an old style Cinema products provid monitor 4" green phosphor. I know that people made a conversion to the 16:9 to this monitor in the past. Could anybody explain me the way to do this? I don´t have much electric knowoedges so I´ll go to a electronic shop with the information I obtain here. A diagram could be very useful and a list with components. Thanks to all

With the greenscreen tube-based monitors there is always a potentiometer (changable resistor) or even a switch on the printboard where you can adjust the height of the scanning.

 

It is not real 16:9, because that has some anamorphic squeeze on a 4:3 image plane (unless you have native 16:9 chips) but this way you get the long faces back to almost normal.

 

Of course you lose some image height, you get black bars on top and bottom so your already small picture will be even more postage-stamp like....

 

You can see that it is not really 16:9 on your monitor by panning something through frame, it will change in shape, even on a long lens. But in general and in the middle of the frame you have a good impression of it.

 

You can open the tube housing and search for those potentio meters, they will be named like:

 

HS (Horizontal Sync), W (wide?), S (symmetry) , V (Vertical Height), use the Vertical Height pot.

Be careful not to touch anything else, High voltage in there! But normally these pots are on a place that is easy to reach.
