Premium Members brett.mayfield Posted May 5, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 5, 2015 hey yall i have a smallHD DP7 OLED that went in for repairs a few months (apparently the main board fried out of nowhere) and after paying for that expense it has sat on the shelf for a bit but has seen some use. I used it last week and for the second or third time the Anton Bauer battery attached to the monitor's plate shorted while in use. The battery's display went blank and the monitor shut down. The battery was powering a teradek receiver via ptap and the smallHD via the plate and the included cables. Do yall know what could be causing this? It has for sure happened with different batteries. Id like to send it in to smallHD but it is pretty well in use for the next few weeks. While I dig the monitor and its features, i probably will not purchase another. anyways, any insight would be helpful. have a good one brett. Premium Members William Demeritt Posted May 5, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 5, 2015 Remove the battery plate and check the wiring connection between the plate and the tiny connector on the DP7. If memory serves, you have to connect it and then stuff all the excess cable (a few inches) into the cavity or wherever it fits. If it got pinched or has somehow grounded to the battery plate, it could be shorting the batteries while connected.
Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted May 5, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 5, 2015 I'm sure you know but let's remove all possibilities. Have you tried without the Teradeck? Are you sure of the polarity of the Teradeck cable? Make sure you are not using a Bartech cable instead. they look the same but polarities are inverted. Premium Members brett.mayfield Posted May 5, 2015 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted May 5, 2015 Hey Victor, hey William Ill check the connection tomorrow when i can get it off the camera truck. I was very careful about the cable when i hooked up the plate, but it doesnt hurt to check. the same has occurred when using the monitor without teradek. i have been plugged in via HDMI from a C300 and the monitor shut down, battery full or nearly so. i also think that the teradek would be fried rather than the monitor if the cable were wrong, but thats a lesson i dont need to learn. I am very conscientious of my teradek cables. just talked to someone today about their bolt 2000 that was blown up. these ACs!! even when the cables are labelled!! thanks for your ideas! brett. Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted May 5, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 5, 2015 If the display on the A/B battery was flashing, it is indeed a short. SmallHD wires their Hirose differently than the standard, so be sure that your cable is for the SmallHD. A break somewhere in the cable can also cause a short.
