Premium Members Afton Grant Posted October 13, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 13, 2005 Hello, I'm about to open an insurance policy on my gear. I'm wondering how specific my itemizing of everything should be. I'm planning on listing the obvious - basically anything with a serial number. What should be done about stuff like cables and brackets and other small, but valuable accessories? Is it necessary to list each item individually, or should they just be put into general categories of accessories like "cables", "bracketry", "mounts" with an approximate value for each category? Obviously I wouldn't open a claim should I lose or destroy a single cable, for instance, but should someone make off with my entire box of them... Much Appreciated, Afton
Premium Members David George Ellis Posted October 13, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 13, 2005 Afton, You should list, in a word, "Everything." Everything that you bring to set, from cases to screws to all in between, list. Cuz just like you mentioned, if someone walks off with a case of something, you don't want to go out-of-pocket for anything you already came out-of-pocket for. I left out only expendables like velcro, sprays and tape. The best thing you can do while listing everything, with and without serial #s, is to list it by the case you are insuring and all the gear in that case. That way you don't have to scramble your brain trying to remember what was lost individually. I'll send you an example of what I have done. David David; I took the exact opposite approach, I list the major stuff (vest, arm sled, FF, camera, mags), then say "plus accessories" which for me includes cables, transmitters, everything else. Then I take the cost of the things in the sled case and do a total of what it would take to replace them (with a little cushion) and give that a dollar figure. (Say sled case $30,000.) This way I'm not tied to a specif set of stuff, and since we all know we change around parts often then I'm not up a creek if case A gets stolen and I, for some reason added a transmitter to that case. I thought about your system but boy thats way more work than I do. Janice
