magliner steadi cart

hey guys- i'm gonna throw my opinion in here, too. when i saw erwin's prototype for this cart i saw the need immediately. we waited for months for backstage to actually get them done, but it was totally worth the wait. when your whole kit becomes as streamlined as this cart makes it, you just wind up with more time to do what you are there to do- operate. i find my assistants happier and more available now that one cart moves the whole kit, stand and all, in one trip. at night they just strap my rig in the truck and it's all safe with no extra work. in the morning you just roll the cart off and throw the camera on. there is no worrying about is my rig safe on the shelf, do i lay the stand down on my cart, or anything else. everyone is happier and you have more time for your job. i never thought that a cart would do all that, but it does. it is well worth spending the extra money to have that security. hope this helps.

Just wondering how many people out there are interested in placing a group order at Backstage for Erwin's custom Steadicam cart?

This cart, being off catalogue makes it time-consuming and expensive to build unless a group order is placed (this is what was done for the first batch). I've been in touch with Pedro and Sig from Backstage who are ready to launch a second batch as soon as they have a few serious people interested.

If some of you are interested, let's get in touch and place an order together.

Feel free to E-mail me at info@cedricmartin.com or give me a call at 917-751 4504

Cedric.

CED,

im very interested but i need to know a concrete price so i can pass it thru the BOSS (wife). OR a very narrow ball park figure so i can have a heads up. i dont have a lot of disposable cash lying around like most of you guys here do and i like my money to work for me immediately. so yes im a serious candidate but need some more details on the possible deal.

thanks for getting in touch with them and for posting up!

I moved the original posts from the wanted section to here. That's the new link to find it:

I finally met with Sig (he took over the project for Pedro, who is sick and been gone for 6 weeks now) at Backstage. We met for about 3 hours (after hours) and took my prototype cart apart and went over the new plans/drawings and changes. It was also the first time that I had my final cases in the cart. (which Sig liked a lot).

If they implement all my changes and with all the ideas that Sig had, the cart would be way faster to build, more versatile and cheaper to produce. (Avoiding extensive aluminum welding, which is time consuming and expensive because it's labor intense, cutting down on parts, changing steel parts to aluminum parts... etc).

So all the guys that ordered one, it's in the works.

Hi Erwin,hi Cedric, hi guys!

What goes for Marc, goes for me too!I need to know the price (or very close!) and I'd need the price for shipping to germany?!!!

If shipping gets more expensive than the whole cart, it wouldn't make any sense!!

So lets hear it!!

wow, Erwin -- cool idea. I started thinking along similar lines after seeing Greg Bubb's mondo-uber-cart a few years ago. A cart built around a case with drawers is the way to go.

You've had better luck with Backstage and your custom designs than I have. I went to them last year to make my cart and they really boned me. Quoted me rediculous prices for custom work (which I agreed to), led me on for my entire hiatus then never built it. I'd call, they'd say "be done next week...oh I meant the week after...it'll be the 5th...I promise by the 20th."

I finally drove over, got my plans and went to a local welding shop. One week later I had a cart for a third of what Backstage quoted me.

Hi Ron,

I had some crazy ideas, and made some crazy drawings and plans for an ultimate steadicart... It would have been to big to heavy and way to expensive (fold out compartment for the rig, integrated pull out seat, sun and rain pop up, etc).... I heard that Jeffrey Hunt actually had something similar to what I dreamed up...

I saw Greg's cart also a couple of years back, but was confined by my transportation (VW Rabbit), so I made an as foldable cart as possible. It had to fit behind the first row seats. I guess lucky for all the guys that ended buying my first generation cart from Backstage. Now that I had my van... I could go crazy... kind of as it still had to fit into the van...

Even though I ordered 5 carts, it still took 18 months to make the cart (still not quite as I would like it to be, but they are working on it). I met twice this week with Sig, the new version of the steadicart is starting to take shape. I had a couple of ideas that would make the assembly faster and cheaper... once they actually start to make them. It looks more and more as if this version of the cart could end up being an off the shelf item, as they are looking into also changing the AC aluminum cart (that the steadicart is based on) to the newer style assembly. Once they start making them it should only take a couple of weeks... (minimal welding and just screw assembly) and later they should have them on the shelf... and you can just pick them up at Filmtools.

And of course the cases... after again a 5 months "tour de force" they are actually at that point where I was able to work with them. A last couple of changes tomorrow and I should be done...

I will fly with them for the first time next week... to Hawaii. I weighted them today, they are slightly over 100 lb. each, fully loaded, I have to shave some weight of to keep them under 100.

But again everybody loves them. The AC's like to work of the cart. So do I...

Fly safe,

PS: Ron I hope you and Tom and BJ etc. have fun today and tomorrow at mount witney...

Arm and Vest and other stuff...

due to the urban clandestine nature of my camping I have nt yet posted a picture of the beast on the interweb. Once I fully steadicam the inside of the new one Ill pop a photo on. In the mean time, turn up to most festivals this year and once you have found me upside down in the ditch and pulled me out ill show the van!
