Premium Members Eric Fletcher S.O.C. Posted May 20, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 20, 2006 I have my Audi S4 just to take my son to school. If that's anything like the M5 wagon that you claimed to have it's not real. Besides while nice the V-8 S4's are slow and limited in Horsepower
Brett Manyluk
I use a combination of Pelicans. 4, to be precise (Sled, arm, FF, Transmiter & HH monitor), and then a softbag for the vest and a steadi ditty from Northwestern textiles from Vancouver (Plus back up vest and arm in another soft vest case). Up in Western Canada, that's all you'll see for assistants bags practically is Northwestern stuff. Nobody up here is quite sure how they make money, because there stuff is soooo good, rainproof, customizable, and super cheap. A rainproofed half-moon style vest bag is $50! Crazy... And then I throw it all in my Dodge Quad cab Hemi 4x4 (with fully alarmed topper). Plus a lot of other stuff. And then tow a trailer when necessary. Plenty of torque & horsepower, but you have to get used to all the trees, birds, and small animals expiring as you drive by. And the 5 hour fill up at the pump. (And you Yanks think You have high gas prices? Sheesh... Come to Canada.) I guess I have to take credit for the warmer winters, bark beetles, and melting glaciers up here. I'd switch to a cummins and run biodiesel, but it's not available in Alberta yet. Brett

Do they have a web site? Anyone know anything about the Modular 51 folks? (http://www.modular51.com/) Also Canadian, but I assume not the same people. Looks like they took over the Rock-Steadi stuff. AND ITS A REAL M5 ENGINE,REAL M5 6 SPD TRANSMISION, REAL M5 SUSPENSION,REAL M5 INTERIOR AND REAL M5 EXTERIOR. ABOUT THE AUDI: ALL THE ORDINARY V8 S4'S THAT YOU SEE ON THE STREET, DONT HAVE THE EXHAUST, SUSPENSION SYSTEM AND THE BOLT ON TURBO KIT FROM THE RS6 THAT MY S4 HAS. PLUS YOUR AUDI IS OLD AND OUTDATED.

You might want to talk to the Miami crew that I worked with last year that knows you and don't really have much to say about your wagon, Pictures of all this factory M5 components (Small problem the car you claim to have doesn't exist) Bolt on turbo kit in a B7??? ROFLMAO there is no room underhood to transplant the V-8's, no such thing as a bolt on turbokit for the S4 V-8. MTM, OcT, Hoppen, AMS, AWE, Abt, no one makes this "Kit" you claim to have. Several people have seen, rode in or driven my S4, it's much faster than pretty much anything that you could dream of. Let's see some pictures of your "Bolt-on Turbo Kit" Seriously..... Gus, While I was in Miami last year on a feature your name came up amongst the local guys and it wasn't positive. Let's see photo's of these cars and bikes, the M5 wagon doesn't exisit it was never built by BMW, and the S4 with "Bolt on Turbo kit" also doesn't exisit there is no such kit. As for you car being faster than mine HAHAHAHAHA, No.
Premium Members Matt Petrosky Posted May 22, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 22, 2006 Anyone know anything about the Modular 51 folks? (http://www.modular51.com/)Also Canadian, but I assume not the same people. Looks like they took over the Rock-Steadi stuff. Hey Alec, I bought their Steadi Sled Bag last year and it's great. Really well made and $140, a fair price. Paid them with PayPal in US Dollars. Only downside, it took somewhere between 8-10 weeks to arrive from the time I ordered it. Even with a week + for ground shipping that's a long time this day and age. In all fairness though, Modular 51 told me this when I ordered it so I am assuming that they are made-to-order. Right when I started getting antsy and was ready to drop them an e-mail it arrived. Nice bag for company-moves and keeping the sled built/protected on a camera truck shelf. -Matt
Premium Members Brant S. Fagan SOC Posted May 22, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 22, 2006 Gents-- For those of us with a taller sled, I think I have a cost-effective answer to the sled case question. My sled, custom built from scratch, has an overall height of 31 1/2". I found, quite by accident, that the older Sony and Ikegami betacam/camera cases have JUST enough room for a sled like this. They also come with removable caster sets. These cases can be had for cheap on eBay and from equipment liquidator outfits. Mine ran me some US$35. plus $50 in shipping. Not bad for a plastic case that already has that "broken in" look and tends to draw less attention at baggage check counters. The rub is that most of these cases have foam which is past the usable lifespan and must be replaced. Even with new foam costs, you are still way ahead of an ATA cases and much lighter as well. For a recent trip, I managed to fit my vest and arm into the old ATA case that came with my original Model 2 system, along with a BFD system and docking bracket, and put my sled into the old Ike case and walk into Boston's Logan airport from the curb with just two (2) cases. Now, granted, I knew that a stand was waiting for me on the other end along with a great AC with his own gear as well. Nice to be able to just "walk" into the airport with two cases and check them as my two pieces of checked baggage. Also notable was the weight carried: 65 pounds for each case. I enjoy a "balanced" hand-carried load. Kept my personal stuff in a small backpack and was pretty mobile. Just my .02 advice. Premium Members Marc Abernathy Posted May 24, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 24, 2006 modular 51 does take a long time and answer emails longer. they do make their gear made to order and i guess that helps keep cost down as they dont have much overhead... but 2 months? dang... i was, at one point, ready to drop money for an arm, sled and vest bag but never got a response back from mark/modular 51 in terms of the time it would take to get me the gear. ...so i dropped it... and now im looking at pelican once again.. is anyone using the pelican gun case for your arm? Premium Members Richard W. Davis Posted May 24, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 24, 2006 is anyone using the pelican gun case for your arm? Fold the arm and it fits nicely in a Pelican 1600 Which is a lot less awkward than the gun size cases(. A little trick John Hankammer showed me. ) Of course you'll want the foam cut professionally for the different levels of the bones, but it works like a charm and is super safe for that all important arm. There is still extra room for some spares and I carry a Sony plate in some of the spare room at the top. I will try to post a picture in the next day or so. Premium Members Bryan Fowler Posted May 25, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 25, 2006 Guido, Lovely case job. Did you cut the foam yourself, or have someone do it for you. Also, who makes the cases, and how thick are they? Just wondering how much protection they offer on the top and bottom. ta.
