Guest NOT Dominic Bartolone
I am about to purchase a new monitor and I am having a tough time deciding which one to go with. I was hoping for a little feedback. In your opinion what is the best monitor right now? Go. The perfect monitor to me is: Super high bright. On board recording. Reasonably priced. 6"-7". Great customer service. HD. Does anyone know if any of the monitor companies are running any deals right now? Coupon Codes? Thanks everyone. Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted August 11, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 11, 2015 Transvideo seems to be the hype right now. SmallHD is cheaper, but it has some fame delay and a hit or miss on screen blemishes. For a recorder get a StarliteHD on the side (great low mode monitor). Otherwise XCS TB6 has yet to be outshined (pun intended) but is SD.
Guest NOT Dominic Bartolone
I am very intrigued by the Odyssey7 by Convergent Design. The built in recorder seems amazing, but I have yet to find the Nits on this monitor. I worry that it may not be bright enough for exterior work. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? Premium Members Thomas English Posted August 11, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 11, 2015 It isn't bright enough. Get a Transvideo.
Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted August 11, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 11, 2015 Depending on your budget and needs. Rainbow HD7 Sbl 3K Or Cinemonitor X-sbl Hd6 or HD8 around 5k
Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted August 11, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 11, 2015 The Odessey7 is OLED. So nit doesn't really apply to the technology as for LCD since there is no backlight. It's more color accurate but not bright enough for Steadicam. As of now there are no high bright monitor that does recording.
Premium Members daniel hanit Posted August 15, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 15, 2015 Is the Transvideo Starlite bright as the Rainbow high brightness monitor?

Premium Members Chris Loh Posted August 16, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 16, 2015 I strongly suggest you take a look at the Boland BVB07, Transvideo x-sbl 6", Cinetronic gen 2, and the TB6 in person. You really need to see which monitor you like by actually looking trying them out. I've gotten the chance to look at these four monitors, and I've realized I have different preferences than other people, and that there is no such things as a perfect monitor. Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted August 16, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 16, 2015 stay with monitors that you can get serviced and are still in production, less headaches. And for US prices, contact Marianne @ Transvideo in Studio City, she is the source here in the USA....
Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted August 17, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 17, 2015 Chris, can you share your preferences and thoughts?
Premium Members Quaid Cde Baca Posted September 28, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 28, 2015 Chris and I bought the Bolands. I also have a tb6. In our tests, the boland has an amazing anti glare screen and remarkable 1500 nit daylight value. I think it's thee best bang for your buck at its ~2200 price range. But you can make the leap, go with a transvideo X-SBL model for sure
Premium Members Brant S. Fagan SOC Posted October 1, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 1, 2015 Love my Boland BVB07! Great imaging with no daylight issues! Assistants love it and directors even have praised it's performance. No hesitation about using it or recommending it! Don't wait, it's the best value for the money and their support is the best! Premium Members Lars Erik Posted October 1, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 1, 2015 Brant, I visited the home page for the new Boland monitor. It didn't say anything about having a flip function. But I assume it has one..?
