Premium Members Martin Stacey Posted July 1, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 1, 2007 Andrew I remember years ago I`ve seen in the Rugby word cup played in Australia where an steadicam Operator was crashed in a play by a New Zeland player in Canada vs New Zeland There was a Canadian wing running near to the line and the steadicam operator follow him. A very big "All black" appeared and give him a tackle and cought the Canadian player and the steadicam operator too in the same move! The operator fell down v-e-r-y b-a-d. I tried to see what happened, but only saw this moment... Gus. Ask and yee shall recieve Cheers, Marty

Premium Members Matt Kearney Posted July 6, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 6, 2007 Hey Guys, I'm very aware of the incident you speak of at the world cup in Australia. The operator was a mate of mine Jason Ewart from Sydney, he was using my master series rig at the time!! He took a very big hit, but luckily walked away ok, bit of a cut on his head from memory but luckily no major damage!!! My rig was not so lucky, i think it was about 11k worth of damage!! Will try and dig up the footage if i can. Take care out there! Cheers
Premium Members Peter Abraham Posted July 8, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 8, 2007 The Steadicam Operator whose work we admire quite frequently is Jeff Zachary. He's been doing hand-held and Steadicam on Monday Night Football ( and Sunday afternoon, I believe.... ) for quite a few years. His work is simply superb and he trains every single day for the endurance test that is a game day. I worked before and after him twice. Once at the 1995 Super Bowl and again at the 2000 Super Bowl. I did pre game and Halftime with the rig, he did the game. I worked. He HAULED ASS. Hat's off to you Jeff, always great framing, great instincts, great operating. Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted January 27, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 27, 2009 Talk about bringing a topic back from the dead! But I had to do it, there's some good stuff in here. I'd like to see how things have evolved with the jobs in this area.. Like Tom, I have interest in the ESPN and NFL Films route. I've shot every college sport handheld at some point in my career, so as a Steadicam Op, naturally I knew where the best highlights would come from. I shot the entire 2008 College Football season, a day full of NCAA Wrestling, and a few Gymnastics Meet's on Steadicam as a private contract with one University. I'd say my endurance has never been better, and I envy those of you who get to dock your rig between shots!! It's hard work but the highlights that I've gotten will be on archive forever at this place.. I'm trying to pursue all avenues to contact the proper people from both entities, and I thought it would be worth asking the experienced minds around here for some perspective. I also have some questions about rigging for such an event. I think I've read through the manuals for every GrassValley model that ESPN might employ.. Help is much appreciated!
