We shot with JVC DVY5000, Canon XL1 and the new JVC HDV cameras (do not remember that model number right now.) Most of the stuff we shoot is live event, real time but we do productions for our training dept. There are times were we are in an area with Flight Hardware and have a limited range of movement. You all are Pro's in this field. I realize from reading posts of this forum it takes an experienced operator to make these things work well. What do you all suggest is the best buy for my equipment and experience level? Your support is greatly appericated..! Nils Ruinet Posted November 8, 2005 Report Share Posted November 8, 2005 Hi Duffin, Maybe you should consider putting the extra $2000 and go for a Flyer. This is a great rig for light cameras. If not, have a look at the glidecam range. But the Flyer is really better (excellent arm, precise adjustments, lightweight)... Will you be the one operating the rig ? If you don't have any experience with steadicam, you should seriously consider attending a workshop to learn the basics. It's totaly worth the price. Also are there any training semmiars in the southeast (USA) that you'd recommend or where is a good place to find out more information about them? As I have been looking around the forum and followed many of the attached links to others web sites, I am impressed with what I see. The more I watch to more I am interested in this disicpline. I am a professional still photographer, who was thrown into the world of video or as I perfer "moving Pictures". My past work still has made on the front page of the NY Times twice and the USA Today to note a few publications. Even though I love being a still photographer I find the same passion for shooting video as I have making still pictures. WOW..!! From what I have learned so far am I to guess that rigs are better if used by only one person rather than a group of people. It seems like there are adjustments designed to suit the operator that you might not want to set up each time you put on the rig. Maybe I am wrong but I would like some feedback anyway. What do you all think about the lower end units? (i.e. hand held) Are they worth the money? Should I even consider them for use in a professional arena? John Steele Posted November 9, 2005 Report Share Posted November 9, 2005 I totally agree with Job here, check out the V25, I really hope the V25 starts getting the credit it deserves once more people try it. Overall in my opinion and the opinions of many others the V25 is a better system, the flyer arm is great, but you know what so is the V25's arm, the V25's sled is way better, HD ready with lots of power and video wired through the post with all no tools adjustments, the V25 will hold 25lbs of camera, the flyer around 15lbs and they're both roughly the same price(the V25 may be a bit more when the first 100 units go) Honestly check out the V25, it offers a lot more bang for the buck. You're right, I didn't get a chance to try the V25 yet. ;) I was speaking of the actual glidecams (V16-V20 etc..., except the Gold of course which is quite nice but not in the same price range). In terms of the lowend handheld units, well, they are good but aren't comparable to the full body rigs. I also use a glidecam 2000 Pro for some things but I can only use it for a few minutes at a time before my arm threatens to fall off, using the full body rig can also still be tiring but I can fly it for a lot longer with a heavier camera than I can with a handheld and small camera.
