Tiago pimentel
hello! I'm not a steadicam operator but, as an indie filmmaker, i love to move my camera and not have it fixed on a tripod all the time. I've been looking for the right steadicam for the camera i'm about to get: the blackmagic ursa mini 4.6k. I've been fascinated by the 3axis gimbals such as the Ronin-m but i'm not sure it will take the camera load. I don't care for matteboxes so i will just use the ursa without battery (powered by the ronin) and the sigma 18-35 1.8. Anyone knows if the ronin-m or mx would work? Anyone has a different suggestion? I'm budgeting around 1500eur for the stabilization system. I'm not thinking about wireless follow focus yet, as I'll probably get away with the sigma at 18mm focusing on everything. Thanks!
Tiago pimentel
Did i place this on the wrong section? If so, i'm sorry, but i could really use some help on this subject. Thanks
Premium Members AndreasKielb Posted July 31, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 31, 2016 You would need a normal Ronin with that load. I used the combination with the steadicam not long ago and it's actually a great thing. I'll use it more often in future. If you don't need the high to low mode movements you can connect the gimbal directly to your topstage with the cinemilled plate. Once the camera is balanced in the gimbal you can change from handles to steadicam in less than a minute using the quick release so there is really no need to carry the gimbal by hand if not necessary. The steadicam is much better suited for longer takes and eye level.
Tiago pimentel
Thanks for your reply! That combo would kill my budget, right? I was hoping to keep it under 1500eur. I've seen people using the ronin-m with the Ursa mini. Of course they take out the batts, side handle and use very light lenses, but even if i use the sigma 18-35mm, the weigth is still under the ronin-m limits. Do you think it would not be able to balance?
Premium Members AndreasKielb Posted July 31, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 31, 2016 I'm not that familiar with the different ronin versions. From the specs the MX might work as well, wouldn't it? It's also much lighter than the original ronin.
