Premium Members Christopher Moone Posted December 14, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 14, 2016 What do people use for their go-to on set AKS? I have a Steadicam AKS from Modular51 but I find it's really big and fairly empty. I've been gradually pulling stuff out of it in an attempt to make it lighter. I'd be curious to see what setups people have.

Lisa Sene
Hi Chris, I use Cinebags CB01 Production Bag: http://www.cinebags.com/cb01-production-bag The different pouches and pockets help me keep accessories organized and easily reachable on set. Since I don't have a cart yet, but do have a stand with the heavy-duty wheels, I usually throw the bag's shoulder strap over the stand and wheel it to my next setup. Happy flying! Premium Members Tom Wills Posted December 16, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 16, 2016 This is what I use. Sadly no good pictures of it in use, but I'll take one of it loaded tonight. Holds 2 batteries, low mode brackets, arm posts, bongo ties, Velcro, allen wrenches, and screwdrivers. I hang it off of a strap wrapped around my stand, and it nestles nicely between 2 stand legs. It's got hard sides, so it holds up pretty well. I did add some Velcro so the top closes fully, which adds some security. https://m.lowes.com/pd/AWP-Polyester-Tool-Bag/50149590
Premium Members Christopher Moone Posted December 17, 2016 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted December 17, 2016 (edited) Hadn't thought of something on my stand. I guess I was holding out for the day I could afford an Afton box. Oddly simple, thanks Tom. I was thinking along the lines of my main AKS on the cart. Thinking of switching to a Pelican 1550 and getting rid of soft bags altogether. I'm working on designing a lid pouch set up specific to our needs and looking for inspiration. Seeing Mike Germond's cases on the travel thread gave me the idea to do something different. Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted December 17, 2016 Moderators Report Share Posted December 17, 2016 I used to use all Pelican cases, but now I use a combination. Pelicans to house different groups of items (i.e. one for Gyros, one for "overflow," one for Teradek, one for Preston). These cases often can be left on the truck (or not brought at all if the item is not needed). Then I have a Modular 51 bag for Steadicam AKS (plates, cables, Garfield mount, various goodies) that lives on the cart. Then another soft bag (PortaBrace) for batteries and chargers. These are heavy bags so a hard case would add to that weight plus they need to have very easy in/out access.
Premium Members Scott Monk Posted December 19, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 19, 2016 Pelican cases. Two 1650's; one with foam for batteries & chargers, one with dividers for all the cables & lose stuff. They're tough, they roll around and are easy to throw in the truck. I use them for table-tops when building-out, and for seating when I'm resting. When I need more space, I'll buy another one. The dividers are Velcro-edged - makes it easy to re-configure without having to buy again when you want to change the layout. Plus, you can usually get used ones pretty cheap on eBay. Premium Members brett.mayfield Posted December 20, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 20, 2016 arri medium bag is my go bag for flashlights, tools, small batteries and some spare ABs, cables, rope, etc. I also leave a few essentials in my stand tray, like an emergency cables bag, j bracket, water. also i use milk crates on my junior magliner. 2x2 on the bottom for all sorts of goodies. someone told me once that i need to get away from those, but what i love is that they are like drawers, no need for extra room to open and close. i put my 3 wheels and tray in one for transport and then when they are on the stand i have an empty one for whatever. when im shooting in swamps and out in the brutal southern heat i have one that is full of insect lanterns and repellant, sun proofing, water proofing, etc. i have a pelican case for my shoes (i usually bring 3 pairs of tennis shoes, waterproof boots, natives, and some five fingers for sand). my truck is big enough to carry a bunch of stuff and i live by "be prepared" and "two is one, one is none" so i bring a ton of stuff. much of it lives in the truck, but im ready for anything. brett.
