Midwest workshops???

Hello, and thanks in advance, I'm a newbie to this.

My company recently bough a Glidecam 4000 Pro with the Smooth Shooter vest. I've been practicing with it all week, and discovered this forum today. I looked through the form quite a bit, and everything points towards taking a workshop to learn how to correctly operate this new rig. My company is located in Chicago, and I was wondering if there are any workshops in the midwest, or if I will have to travel to one of the coasts to take a workshop. It's not that I have any problems travelling, but my company will be footing the bill...

Also, I was wondering if there are any books on Steadicam operation, or is this forum the only resource I'll have for learning (outside of a workshop)? Again, thanks in advance for all who take the time to answer.

Hi Ben,

Actually, Janice Arthur runs a very reputable workshop right in Chicago. www.janicearthur.com

The SOA workshops are well worth the money though. When tuition, room and board come to $2k+, the price of airfare is nominal at that point, especially lately with such good deals.

Best of luck,

Afton Grant

Thanks for the responses. I checked out Janice Arthur's website and sent her an e-mail. One more question though... Her site only mentioned "Steadicam," and the rig I have is a "Glidecam." Would there be any benefit to taking a specific Glidecam workshop (I've seen a couple of these) or would taling a steadicam workshop teach the same things/have the same benefits???

I've been in contact w/ Janice and she's going to run a private workshop for me and one other guy in a few weeks. I gotta say I'm really jazzed about it. Thanks for the help.
