Brett Manyluk
Another small congratulations to Jim Bartell. When the Preston from Clairmont went down today, the "back up" bartech jumped in eagerly, was ready to go quickly, and performed very well. Nice to have a simple, reliable system around (and in a Canadian Winter Climate). Kudos to you Jim. ...not that I'm saying anything bad about the Preston. Good system having a bad day, that's all... Premium Members JimBartell Posted February 17, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 17, 2004 Thanks for the plug, Brett! Early on in introducing the BFD, an AC who was buying one gave me this reasoning behind his purchase: "I know that one day on a shoot we are going to need a FF for some reason, either the main one broke or the director added some shot that requires one, and I'm going to reach into my bag and pull out a BFD, and from that point on I am a hero on the set. And when they are hiring for the next project, I'm the one they'll remember." Seems he knew what he was talking about. Given the price & performance of the BFD/M-One combo, the question has changed from "Can I afford it?" to "Can I afford to be without it?". More than one Preston owner who has bought a BFD (feel free to chime in) for a back-up is now telling me that for various reasons (size/weight/M-One power) they are using the BFD more and more even if the Preston is available, or they use the BFD and rent the Preston out. And not to say anything bad about the Preston either, I think it's a brilliant piece of engineering, but everything breaks at some point (even BFD's). Jim "sell sell sell" Bartell Ahh, but when a BFD breaks it's fixed and back to you in 1 or 2 days. I've had a couple of minor problems over the last few months (A.C broke off the antenna) and Jim fixed the problem and sent it back out so quick I barely noticed it was gone. Thanks again Jim for a great product with great service!
Premium Members Charles Papert Posted February 18, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 18, 2004 Jim rocks. So does Howard and Co. My handset was dropped in the morning while on location in New Orleans; we had a loaner replacement on set that same night, shipped counter to counter. Both companies should be commended for their customer service. While I'm at it, Walter Klaussen is just amazing on that end also.
