Shawn Adams
I have a few Steadicam arms and am wondering if anyone has an opinion on this.. If you are shooting with different cameras all the time (Alexa, Red and DSLR) I found it's better to use a lighter capacity arm for the light stuff, rather than having the heavier arm almost as light it is will allow... to me, it still seems a bit stiff... I wonder what you all think of using an arm that is midrange on the weight vs hitting the extremes on the stiffness (heavy or light)... Thoughts? Premium Members Jerry Holway Posted May 6, 2017 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 6, 2017 G-50X and G-70X arms are very iso (and adjustably so) regardless of the weight carried. (12-50+ and 13-70+ pounds/no tools). Best choice, IMHO. Look for good used arms if new price is an issue. "3 spring" arms always get less iso and more reactive the less weight they carry. It's physics and can't be avoided. Master Series arms had consistent performance but often had sticky bearings... good arm if kept clean. PRO arm with multiple canisters also a good choice. Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted May 7, 2017 Moderators Report Share Posted May 7, 2017 Shawn, search the archives here on the Forum. A great deal has been written on the subject. The King Daddy arms are the G-70X and PRO Titan which sound like they are more arm than you need. The G-50X and the PRO Atlas would be great (and possibly found used). Tiffen also makes smaller arms which are good too depending on your weight needs.
Shawn Adams
Thanks for the replies... I'd love an arm that does everything, but for now, just dealing with my 2 arms...
