Premium Members Michael Stumpf Posted March 27, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 27, 2004 Well, since I've only put up a GII once, and it was never on a job, I can't answer the power hungry part, but be ready for BL4 like weight! Heavier if you use primos!

Premium Members Brad Grimmett Posted March 27, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 27, 2004 Is the Gold a power hungry Cam??? It didn't seem any more power hungry than any other camera to me. It seemed about on par with any other film camera. I've worked with it twice and don't remember having to change batteries any more than normal. Good luck.
Premium Members JamieSilverstein Posted March 28, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 28, 2004 Having flown it once, all I can say is that it is not the camera of choice. Power wise however its not bad, but it really sucks to carry. If you are doing a walk and talk with it or any thing on flat terrain, make sure that the grip has a Western or doorway dolly for you to use because you will need it after take two or three. Best of luck.
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted March 28, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 28, 2004 I've never noticed the G2 being any better/worse than any other camera concerning power, but something that will always make your batts last longer is shutting the tap and/or xmitter off whenever possible/if sitting for a while waiting to work. How many sets have you been on where the taps and xmitters are turned on all day, even when the camera's not in use/at lunch? I don't know what it is about assistants' being afraid to turn things off? Do they know something we don't, or is it just voo-doo? Sometimes the damn taps use as much power as the camera motor. The guys at Custom Interface mentioned once that the life of the xmitter will be longer if it is shut off as much as possible (duh) -- the little buggers will literally cook themselves to death. Premium Members David Allen Grove Posted May 5, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 5, 2004 I flew a gold for the first time a couple of weeks ago. three to four minute slow moving shots over rough terrain. Tree roots, slippery sand and rocks. Wasn't really all that fun.. You couldn't pay me enough to do that again. Forest Gump voice) That's all I have to say about that. Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted May 19, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 19, 2006 I posted a result in the arm section about the GII, title "Why not a GII": http://www.steadicamforum.com/forums/index...?showtopic=1695 I thought that was important as a newer operator that asked me about the GII, came back with the response, after he did the prep: "It's not that bad".... Fly safe, Erwin"I'll make a t-shirt, NO GII"Landau
